Bosch’s sidearm
I don’t think Bosch’s new sidearm is a Kimber, it looks like some sort of custom build, there doesn’t appear to be any markings on the slide which there should be if it was a Kimber. Also it has an external extractor which Kimbers lack, plus the sights look different as well as the trigger and hammer. --cool-breeze (talk) 02:01, 28 April 2020 (EDT)
: It's not a Kimber. Bosch actor Titus Welliver confirmed it on Twitter before Season 6 that Bosch now carries a SIG-Sauer 1911 (Link to Twitter). To my knowledge, it's the SIG-Sauer 1911TR TACOPS, as noted by the picatinny rail and the "classic" 1911-style slide profile (TR stands for Traditional IIRC) vs. the "SIG-Sauer" type slide profile which is reminiscent of the P220/P226 -series. The traditional model seems to be now discontinued, as the SIG website only shows the SIG-Sauer type slide profile. --MonkGlonk (talk) 16:03, 20 May 2020 (EDT)
The revolver identified as a model 64 has adjustable sights. Therefore, it can not be a Smith and Wesson 64. It looks like a stainless (not "nickeled") model 67

The muzzle of the revolver carried by Detective Jerry Edgar in an ankle holster seems to have a flat end rather than a rounded one. So I think it's not a nickel 3rd generation Detective Special, but rather a stainless Colt SF-VI (or DS-II, as they were recently called), or may be a Magnum Carry. - It was previously listed as a 'Smith & Wesson 500', which is, uh, incorrect. It's clear this gun is nowhere near big enough to be a 500. Was it even released when this film was made? Either way, definitely not a 500. Another comment previously posted on the Main page (reposted below) states so as well. As for what the gun actually is, I'd probably go with a Python snub myself. StanTheMan 21:08, 23 April 2010 (UTC)

Then how can you tell if it's an M16A3? Excalibur01
::Well it 'could' be an M16A3 in a foreign movie armory. I know that Colt sold the same variants they sold to the Military, to foreign countries. But we tend to refer to all M16A2s on films shot in the U.S. as M16A2s, since they are pretty much all full auto conversions of semi auto guns or military guns purchased from Colt via Police/LEO sales or Title II mfg (note: I asked CW if they had any 3 round burst guns, and it seems that no one has 3-round burst guns in Hollywood), so even receivers that are MARKED M16A2 "Property of U.S. Govt" are converted to fire full auto burst. I tend to offer the option of an A3 if the film was armored outside of the U.S. But a film within the U.S. will have a converted gun no matter what and I have never seen an A3 marked gun in the U.S. movie industry (but of course I haven't seen every gun in the U.S. movie arsenal but it's a pretty good rule of thumb so far). ==Singlepoint OEG==

It's weird seeing one in a movie made in 2002. Sure, the Aimpoint CompM2 was still pretty new then, but it's hard not to think of OEGs as difficult-to-use antiques. They're pretty much useless for long-aiming but they work well enough for quick acquisition (an ocular effect called 'phoria' makes the red dot move around after a little while. it's what happens when the binocular effect is broken and the eyes are basically looking at two different objects) and they don't need batteries. That weird little clear bit on the front gathers light to illuminate the dot. They're also the weird looking sights on Star Wars blasters. ==Not Model 29s==
The revolvers used by the bank robbers at the beginning of the movie are not S&W model 29. The profile of the frame, the front sight and (in the pic where it can be seen) the cylinder release latch look more like a Colt King Cobra. However, if I remember well the movie, the guns lacked the heavy, full underlug barrel of the King Cobra. My guess is that these are blank guns.

The Onion Field is a 1979 film that describes the real kidnapping of two LAPD officers in the 60’s. The movie screenplay was written by ex-LAPD officer Joseph Wambaugh, based on his book.
Smith & Wesson Model 14
Both LAPD detectives, played by John Savage (Det. Karl Hettinger) and Ted Danson (Det. Ian Campbell) carry 6-inch barreled Smith & Wesson Model 14 revolvers in cross-draw holsters. The 6” barrel model 14 was a common LAPD gun during the 50’s and 60’s decades, and even plainclothes officers carried it. In real life, according to Joseph Wambaugh, Detective Campbell carried a model 14 (then known as the “k-38 target masterpiece”), while Det. Hettinger carried a 6”-barrel Colt.
Spoilers

Astra Constable
Gregory Powell (James Woods) buys an Astra Constable in a pawn shop for Jimmy “Youngblood” Smith (Franklyn Seales). This is not totally accurate. According to Wambaugh’s book, the gun used by Smith was indeed an Spanish Pistol, but it was a .32 auto Star, not an Astra.
Colt Official Police
Powell uses a Colt Official Police as his personal gun. Some LAPD officers also use this revolver.
Though I loved the opening shootout when I first saw it, I quickly realized what a mess of editing it is. I believe when Boyd first incapacitates one of the fake officers and takes his gun what he pulls up is actually a Micro Uzi. It then switches for a second to a Glock 18, then I highly believe it shows him firing his Colt at the helicopter over the door of the SUV but overlays it with the sound of full auto fire. I believe he finishes off the rest of the cops with a Glock 18. I don't have the DVD so I can't provide screenshots to attest to this, but perhaps someone else can back me up. -- ZG
