::It's possible that these L85s are airsoft, but I can tell you that the Canadian armory that supplies this show with its weapons (Felcan Enterprises in Vancouver) definitely has some real L85s. == Mossberg Shotguns? ==

Anybody else think both of the shotguns currently listed as Mossberg variants aren't? The second one listed as a 590A1 is the easiest to disprove, as there is no safety visible on the receiver in either of the shots. From how rounded the back of the ejection port looks, my guess would be an 870. As for the one listed as a homeland defender, this turns up in season 2 where it can be seen that the barrel is way too short for a normal homeland defender. Also I can't see a mossberg safety, although it isn't particularly well seen. Based on the fact that both shotguns seem to have short barrels and XS Ghost Ring sights, I would guess that they may actually be built from the same gun, just that the first one is fitted with a muzzle brake and Surefire handguard. --commando552 (talk) 11:56, 18 October 2013 (EDT)

::Yes, they are 870s with the Knoxx SPECOPS stock. Look at other TV shows and movies filmed in Vancouver recently (Sucker Punch (2011), Continuum, Underworld: Awakening, etc.) - in all of those productions, the shotguns are listed as 870s. And since this show gets its weapons from the same armory as those productions (Tom Felcan), you can assume that they're the same guns here.

::This page has some other errors, too. For example, the so-called "MP5K-PDWs" are clearly just the same regular MP5Ks seen elsewhere on the show. -MT2008 (talk) 11:36, 19 October 2013 (EDT)
::Well for one, that's what armorers had handy before about 1997, when they started using actual MP5Ks. Two, you can see it has an old stlye trigger group, which is typical of an SP89. And three, the guns lack paddle magazine releases and push pin lower recievers. So that's how I can tell they are SP89s. I am not aware of any rule that before 1997, only partially-converted SP89s were used. Stingers are cold launched, meaning the missiles are ejected from the tube first, and are well clear of the tube before the rocket motor engages, like the Peacekeeper, and every model of SLBM the US has ever fielded. According to the weapons' safety manual, under combat firing nobody should be within 50 feet of the backblast to avoid injury or death.
:A quick image search of Stinger launches will reveal several images that show the effects of the launch motor effects. They can kick up considerable dust and debris. The one goof in the truck scene would be the color of the blast. Most man-portable launchers use a colorless ejector motor to keep targets from spotting the launch location. --MrMiracle (talk) 22:12, 11 May 2013 (EDT)

I wondered if the MAC-10 falling down the stairs is fake and flashes and shells added in post production.

:Nope, it wasn't a fake gun; it's a real MAC-10 that was actually dropped and rigged electronically to fire while falling. This is, as you say, not standard practice, but for this particular movie, it was necessary. Long Mountain Outfitters has a picture of the MAC-10 that was used in that scene, here:

How come the military do not use the drum magazine that much? Isn't a large 50 round clip good?
: First off its MAGAZINE not clip. Secondly there is a very good reason why Thompson owners prefer the 20 and 30 round stick MAGAZINES to the 50 or 100 round drum MAGAZINES. The Thompson Submachinegun is frigging heavy at nearly ten pounds of wood and steel. This means that while it is a good submachinegun people don'tr like to have to carry all those drums around. Plus the drums are less than reliable compaired to the stick magazines.Rockwolf66 04:27, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Those fifty and one hundred round drum magazines are also a real bear to load up and they're noisy if you need to be moving silently. The British found that out in the earl days of World War Two. All those cartridges have a tendency to move around and slap against the container. Oh and did I mention that with those drug mags reloading is a real chore. You really need a third hand to change them out. The stick mags are faster. Much faster. Watch Public Enemies.Almost none of those guys use the drum mags. Only the stick mags. Which I understand was historically correct. --Jcordell 04:48, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

::You do need a third hand to swap out a drum on a modern semi-auto Thompson unless you have a tool to trip the bolt-open catch normally tripped by the box magazine follower when empty. The full auto 1921, 1928 and semi auto 1927 fire from the open bolt, and once you recock the bolt after the drum runs dry, it takes *only* two hands to change out drum on the original Thompson (still is not easy). --Carl N. Brown 08:03, 4 September 2012 (CDT)

The drum mags weren't very reliable. Turns out drum mags don't work too well. The design is just too complex to be practical and that's the reason you don't see much drum mags on SMGs and rifles. Plus after you loaded the Thompson's drum, you had to wind the bastard and it would come unspung and it wouldn't feed properly. Hughjefender

it look like the just use the drum in the start of attacks. once that dry, the use stick mags.
:That's like how the Soviets used to handle mags with the PPSh, one drum mag, and then all box mags. And while we're here, is the guy in the photo Curly from the Three Stooges? --Funkychinaman 06:18, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Some people have no sense of history. That's Wallace Beery!
I met a guy once that said that his Grandfather used to use a Thompson with a scope. He was a guard at a factory, and they used to place him on the roof during strikes. He said that his Grandfather claimed that the Thompson was very accurate on single fire. David.
:The crew cut threw me off. All the pictures I've ever seen of Wallace Beery had him with a full head of hair. --funkychinaman 13:03, 12 May 2010 (UTC)

That 'scoped gun could be one of the original Model 1927 semi-auto only Thompsons. They were just a Model 1921 with a plug instead of a selector switch but some police forces did not want to issue full-auto. 50 shot semi-auto with a scope from a prison guard tower makes sense as a riot control weapon; still could be just the result of a prop gun with too much time on his hands. --Carl N. Brown 08:03, 4 September 2012 (CDT)

well..
I'm not saying it would ever be practical for a scope to be mounted on a Thompson, but it might be a slightly better idea to slap one on the Thompson M1A1. considering it has a lower firing rate than the "original" 1917 Thompson, and (in theory) a bit easier to control.

When SWAT was introduced did they ever used this gun or did they prefer the M3 "Grease" Gun?

:The first SWAT units were formed in 1968, and IIRC their "special weapons" at the time were semi-automatic .223 rifles rather than subguns. Evil Tim 05:37, 12 July 2011 (CDT)
:M1921 lacks the compensator of the M1928, but the M1921AC is externally identical, with some of the firing mechanism having heavier parts to slow down the rate of fire. Without knowing the rate of fire or seeing the receiver stamps (simply an over-stamp of the 1 to an 8) it is impossible to tell an M1928 from and M1921. --commando552 13:06, 12 September 2011 (CDT)
In Western Animation
The Thompson is a popular subject in western animation. Its association with WWII and frequent appearance in gangster movies makes it a very familiar firearm to most viewers. Its simple shape can be achieved with a minimum amount of geometric detail and color. The site doesn't allow pages for western animation unless they meet the detail requirements, but I doubt anyone hasn't seen a cartoon at some point in their life that didn't include the Thompson.--MrMiracle (talk) 21:48, 5 May 2013 (EDT)

Am I the only one that has trouble taking an armorer seriously when his English is this terrible? Atypicaloracle

:You're not.

.50 Caliber
another point on the .50 Desert Eagles, the .44 mag and .357 mag desert eagles have fluted barrels (where the handle meets them and the barrels go from a box cross-section to a more octagonal cross-section) and the ones in the screenshots have none. As a source for this I would cite the official product page in the product info for the mark XIX desert eagle, and possibly compare them to the .357 mag on the 10-inch below it

:I thought only the .44 Magnum version of the Mark XIX had the fluted barrel? (Maybe you just thought you did) Or at least, the Mark I and Mark VII in .357 Magnum didn't have the fluted barrel, I dunno about the Mark XIX as I've never seen/handled one in .357. -MT2008 23:15, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

caliber
--I'm not too sure that these are .50AE. If anything, the agents have fired much more than the 7 rounds in a .50 Desert Eagle, and there is barely any recoil as a .50 would. I would say that it would be a Deagle chambered in .357 Magnum instead. If I am mistaken, I stand corrected. --Blemo 21:53, 16 June 2009 (UTC)

:They are most definitely the .50 AE version. That is without doubt a .50-cal bore in the third screenshot; the .357 bore is much smaller. The armorer who worked on the movie, John Bowring, has also said they are the .50 AE version in interviews. The reason there's so little recoil is because the actors are firing blanks (as you can also see in the last image), and blanks have much less recoil than live rounds. -MT2008

::Also, the fact that the agents fired many more then seven shots is irrelevant. This is the matrix, after all, where a submachine gun with a thirty round mag can fire at least a hundred shots without running dry. (Can it? Maybe you just think it can.)Acora 21:56, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

:The UMP you are referring to is just one example of a "hack" weapon that doesn't apply to the rules of Matrix, but most guns do, which is weird cause why are Neo's, Trinity's, etc. Why are their guns not unlimited or nearly bottomless. Morpheus was seen reloading his Glock twice. (I believe this is because they are not linked into the Matrix, so their ammo is limited. This may be why a lot of the combat is done using katanas, fists, legs etc, etc. Whereas the Agents are hooked into the Matrix, so they can access an unlimited supply of ammo.)Excalibur01

::Exactly, the whole, "anything's possible because it's the Matrix" is a copout answer when you consider the inconsistencies related to guns. And anyway, I really don't care about that stuff anyway. This is IMFDB. We're concerned with the the behind-the-scenes reality, not the the movie universe. Save that shit for some Matrix fanboy site. (Do you really think that? Maybe you just think you do.)-MT2008 05:02, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
:::Even though Agents do run out of ammo and are seen reloading... "You're empty." "So are you." anyone? Atypicaloracle

M1911A1
The page is missing one more gun. During the rooftop scene when Neo and Trinity are fighting several soldiers, I noticed the guy who tries to shoot Trinity is holding what appears to be a M1911A1.

Military controlled Building's Security
Are the lobby guards and the backup soldiers are really classified as bad guys? And when the lobby guard said to send backup, was he really calling the agents?

In the film, Morpheus mentions that anyone can become an agent, which is why you see Trinity take out the seemingly innocent cops at the beginning. The security guard was just calling up the SWAT and not the agents. --Ben41 01:31, 12 March 2010 (UTC)
:To add onto what Ben said, nod, the security guards aren't bad guys. However, it's possible for them to become agents at any time, and besides, they would stand in the way of rescuing Morpheus if there weren't taken care of. Therefore, it was neccesary, and more interesting, for Neo and Trinity to fight them. Acora 22:08, 18 March 2010 (UTC)

:The stupid part is that since this is the Matrix, they never explain what they can and cannot bring with them or just simply call up. If they could bring up as many guns they could carry, why not summon a car or a helicopter. They needlessly did a drawn out shootout and ended up getting a helicopter at the roof Excalibur01
:Because it looks cool.

:For everybody's information, the "backup" the security guards called up when Neo and Trinity made their entrance into the Government Building's lobby were in fact soldiers, not SWAT officers. If you look carefully, you will see that there is a significant differences between the two groups e.g. SWAT officers having the word "POLICE" on their body armour while the soldiers had no markings on the front of their body armour (excpet for their nametapes), the soldiers having knife/bayonet scabbards on their webbing while the SWAT officers did not, the SWAT officers at the hotel wore armoured gaiters around their shins while the soldiers did not etc etc. If one can look over the hotel scenes and the lobby shootout scenes, you'll know what I'm talking about. - Roughneck Jase 20:10PM AEST 19 October 2010
::Yes that is correct. In the original script (although it is not the final draft) Neo and Trinity had a less dramatic lobby fight with marines, although it is difficult to tell whether these were the same characters who were in the lobby shootout from the final film, and on the rooftop too. So I have always thought they were marines, well actually just computer programs resembling the marines, I tend to believe that neither them nor the guards were actual human beings who had families at home, but were simply just computer programs designed to defend the Matrix, only as "human" as programs such as the agents, how would the marines have entered the building in less than a minute after the guard called backup if they were human beings? It is worth noting, though, that in the Matrix Path of Neo game Neo and Trinity fight only SWAT members in the lobby and the rooftop, which is a difference from the movies. :Don't the agents also have those "bug" darts like in the scene where Neo is interrogated by the agents? For the above question by an anonymous user, I don't know how they responded so quickly. I assume that the government building is also the headquarters of the soldiers, or possibly private security, in the lobby fight scene, which could explain why they appeared in a minute. - Kenny99 19:03, 12 August 2011 (CDT)
Whoever wrote the caption on the last Desert Eagle picture is probably not aware of the magic of film editing. :: I think the page is locked to admins only. In any case, I disagree with your idea for a picture change, that is no more accurate than the other picture - While the guns do have fixed stocks (Like your image) the SPAS's in the Matrix also have extended magazine tubes and barrels like MPM's image, and unlike the SPAS in that picture. Plus, and not to put you down, but that looks to be a jacked image, and a poor size/quality one at that. The SPAS image being used is one of MPM's high-quality ones which are taken just to be used on the site. In the end, I don't see any reason to change it myself. But I guess it's not up to me. Neo (Keanu Reeves) takes at least four pairs of Beretta 92FS pistols with him on his mission to save Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). The reason he carries eight pistols instead of just one or two with spare magazines is that it's faster to drop the empty ones and pull out "fresh" ones, than it is trying to reload them and possibly fumbling.

:I didn't see that as bad logic, I tried it myself and it IS faster to drop & grab than it is to reload (especially when your holding two pistols at the same time), you also don't have to worry about fumbling and botching while reloading. Plus it's the Matrix, they don't have to worry about money or having to retrieve the weapons.
Gun Handling Audio
I was watching The Avengers with commentary the other day, but had the subtitles turned on so I could follow the dialog. In the scene where Black Widow draws on banner, the subtitles and audio indicate "gun cocking". Since the Glock 19 has an internal striker, there really isn't anything for Johannsen to draw back with her thumbs. I see a lot of discussion about the visual and handling aspect of realistic firearm usage, but I've lately become very aware of the large number of antiquated and overused audio samples that are used when characters handle firearms on screen. --MrMiracle (talk) 16:50, 17 March 2013 (EDT)

Aircraft Images
I know this isn't the internet movie aircraft database, but its a subject I know decently well. The aircraft in the first image looks like some variant of the Dassault Mirage. If the movie was filmed on location in Japan, the filmmakers would probably have the easiest time borrowing a 2000 variant, which would carry a 30mm DEFA 554. The second image is of an A-4 Skyhawk (again, possibly loaned locally), which carried 20mm Colt Mk 12s. --MrMiracle 21:21, 22 August 2012 (CDT)

I've looked everywhere on the net and no one seems to have noticed that the scene which uses the 686 is inaccurate in regards to the mechanics of that weapon. The camera shows the gun lining up on an empty chamber and firing. Am I missing something here?
Was watching this movie again, and I realized that the gun the reverend used (the guy that Evey is sent to as a prostitute) wasn't in here. Anyone confirm? --Gunkatas 23:55, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Doesn't look like a Jetfire. The trigger guard is different, and the one in the movie doesn't appear to have a hammer or the hinge on the front of the slide. Plus, it looks like it has a grip safety. It doesn't have the Jetfire's horned backstrap, either. Try comparing it to a Beretta Model 1919 . I believe you'll find it to be a much closer match.
British Weapons
I find it curious that in a movie about a heavily British nationalist government, there isn't a single British manufactured weapon in the entire film. We've got Italian, German, and Austrian weapons in the hands of most agents and the occasional American gun. Maybe this is just a detail too expensive to implement.
