[[Casper Van Dien]] returns as Johnny Rico, a war hero now promoted to Colonel in the seemingly never-ending battle against a race of enormous bugs known as the Arachnids. In the film, Col. Rico and his squad of troopers are called into action by his old friend Gen. Dix Hauser ([[Boris Kodjoe]]) to rescue Starship Captain Lola Beck ([[Jolene Blalock]]) and her crew from a bug infested nightmare. In the second film ''Starship Troopers II'', the decision was made to only use fictional non-firing weapons. However, in this film, real firearms were once again used and were housed in a futuristic shell. Because this film was made in South Africa, many of the weapons seen were of this country's origin.

==Morita Mk. III (Vektor R5)==
The primary weapon used by the Mobile Infantry in the film is the Morita Mk. III. The rifle bears a resemblance to the [[Objective Individual Combat Weapon]], complete with "over-slung" grenade launcher and a long scope that ends in a flashlight(!). The weapon itself is actually a [[Galil|Vektor R5]] assault rifle, a South African variant of the [[Galil]] assault rifle, housed in a very bulky looking gun mold.
