The Volcanic Repeater is a very important gun in history. At the time, most other firearms were muzzle loaded. A joint venture led to the creation. The Jennings Rifle Company had Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson working for them, and they teamed up on this pistol. This led to the partnership of Smith and Wesson a year later in 1854. Oliver Winchester, one of the company's investors, effectively dissolved the Volcanic Repeating Arms company in 1857, later relaunching the company as the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The Volcanic Repeater mechanism was heavily influential on Winchester's classic lever-action rifles, including the Henry rifle (1860) and the Winchester Model 1866 "Yellow Boy". Two of the world's largest gun companies are here because of this collaboration.

The Volcanic lever action magazine firearm was patented February 14, 1854 by Smith and Wesson and manufactured by Smith & Wesson, The Volcanic Repeating Arms, and New Haven Arms Companies until 1860.
How exactly would one be able to work the Volcanic Repeater one-handed with any efficiency? I ask only because I recently got RDR and such an action design looks like it would require two hands to work with any speed. Seems like it would be extremely awkward, too. For a rifle it makes sense since you can put your whole hand into working the lever, but with the Repeater it's pull the trigger, flick the lever, pull the trigger, flick the lever. I could see someone under stress mistakenly trying to pull the lever and flick the trigger, then getting shot by the other guy. :S Spartan198 (talk) 18:46, 26 February 2013 (EST)
The Volcanic Pistol, Carbine and Rifle were not manufactured for .22RF. Simply because they did not use rimfire cartridges, but rather improved rocket ball ammunition. - MarsVoyager (talk) 07:52, 27 January 2018 (EST)

The butt stock of the Volcanic rifle used by El Indio and Manco is not of the original Volcanic type. You can see on the picture with El Indio that the butt plate is straight rather than the half-moon shape of the Volcanic (and the Henry). Moreover the stock seems to have some "lightening cuts" or similar, seen on the picture with Manco. Do you have any idea of a type of butt stock with these cuts and a straight butt plate? MarsVoyager (talk) 14:59, 13 January 2018 (EST)
