FBI Agent Renee Walker's sidearm
Can someone clear this up?

Is Renee Walker's sidearm Glock 23 or Glock 17? (I think someone actually listed her sidearm at Glock 17 in the Glock page).

Thanks in advance.

:Agent Walker's sidearm is a compact model she doe's not use a Glock 17. She is either using a Glock 23 or Glock 19 I'm still confirming the caliber once I look at the bore of the barrel you could just leave the Glock page blank of all 24 activity until I finish rescreencapping Season 7. However I still estimate I'll be done with Season 7 within 2 weeks.

::Whoever keeps changing this back to a Glock 23 is wrong in episode 3 you can look at the barrel of it it is clearly a 9mm not 40 cal thus making it a Glock 19 not a Glock 23. Plus look at Annie Wershing hands they couldn't handle a 40.

:::If the actress is using blank ammunition it does not matter whether her hands can handle the recoil of the firearm. Since January 1998, all new agents are trained on the 10×21mm (.40 S&W) Glock 22 pistols, with the smaller 10×21mm (.40 S&W) Glock 23 for those who prefer it. The ultra-compact 10×21mm (.40 S&W) Glock 27 is authorized as concealed backup. Older agents continue to field their SIG-Sauer pistols, if they wish, and even new agents can switch to the 9×19mm guns if they qualify with them. Until Season 7 is finished please post all comments on the discussions page and wait for confirmation from the screencaps.

::::You're thinking about it the wrong way. This is a TV show, not real life. Just because the FBI uses the Glock 22/23 in real life doesn't mean the same is true in this show. The Secret Service agents in this show use SIG P228s instead of 299R DAKs (their current real-life issue).

::::In Hollywood, most of the semi-auto pistols used are 9mms, because there was a time when gunsmiths in the industry found this caliber to be the most reliable with blanks. Armorers didn't start using newer calibers until fairly recently. When in doubt, we tend to assume a pistol used in a movie is a 9mm, and it's a safe bet here. If the armorer who worked on this show cared THAT much about realism, then they probably would have given the USSS agents the correct sidearm. That they didn't makes me pretty sure that Agent Walker's Glock is probably a 9mm G19. -MT2008

Live Free or Die Hard Armorer
Aside from the gun calibers has anybody noticed that this show uses the same guns as Live Free or Die Hard? I'm now thinking that if this is the same armorer that supplied Die Hard 4 and since gunmaster has identified the Glock 22's it's not so hard to believe that 24 may also be using .40S&W compatible firearms. I've only realized this since season 5.

:This show does not use the same weapons as Live Free or Die Hard. The weapons for that movie were rented mostly from Stembridge & Cinema Weaponry. I'm pretty sure that 24s weapons come mostly from Independent Studio Services (or at least, they did in the 7th season). Anyway, I've told you before: Unless you have some way of confirming it, you should assume that the Glocks in the show are 9mms. If the propmaster that worked on the show was going for realism (meaning, the correct Glock model for the FBI), then why did they use SIG P228s, which in real life are not used by the Secret Service anymore? -MT2008

::Yes I already know about that I just realized that after the 5th season of 24. It has had 13/21 weapons used by Live Free or Die Hard including 2 rare models that are just not seen very much on IMFDB. Especially the Beretta 92G Elite 1A used in Season 7. It was just interesting thing I couldn't get off my head. Thanks for clearing it up I have never heard of Stembridge & Cinema Weaponry before.

Breaking up page by Seasons
How do people feel about breaking up this page by Season (much like Miami Vice)? Being that this show will be beginning its 8th season soon, it might be the time. --Ben41 23:12, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

I support the idea very much. If this page gets polished in near future, 8 seasons worth of guns and screencaps is going to be a bitch to read. - AlkoTanko
Second generation Glock 17 pistols are used by the members of the FBI, most notably Charlie Francis (Kirk Acevedo). == Steyr AUG ==
Hauser has a Steyr AUG A2 with special camera-scope that he attempts to use to assassinate the Turaqi Sheik. The barrel has a custom flash-hider that imitates the Barett M95, and is controlled remotely via joystick from Hauser's HMMWV.
:Actually what determines if it is an A2 is not the scope mount (AUG-A2s are available with both the incorporated scope and the scope mount), but the fact that the charging handle can "fold", for lack of a better word, against the receiver. The A1 model, which this appears to be, has a fixed charging handle that is permenantly canted at an angle. Just as an additional note, the A1 model was also available with a Picatinny scope rail in place of the integrated scope.SAWGunner89 15:30, 12 December 2009 (UTC)
Many different AK-47 variants are seen in the hands of Tamerlane soldier, Shock Troops, and rebellious Turaqi militia. Typically the Turaqi militia are armed with older AK-47 and Norinco Type 56 models, whereas Tamerlane employees are armed with AK-103s instead. A few Tamerlane soldiers are armed with AKMS rifles, but these are never seen fired and it is likely they are airsoft replicas.
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) carries two Colt M1911A1 pistols kept in a cross-draw shoulder holster rig through out the film, although he rarely fires them. Several other characters carry them and they are notably used by the prison escapees, including Walter Dietrich (James Russo) during the opening scene. Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) also uses one as his sidearm during the Little Bohemia shootout. "Baby Face" Nelson (Stephen Graham) also carries one as his sidearm, and notably uses it to shoot an FBI agent in the back in his apartment building. Charles Winstead (Stephen Lang) fires one during the Biograph Theater scene. While Dillinger was said to prefer .38 Super pistols in real life, there are currently no .38 Super weapons or blanks in the armorer industry, and all of the M1911A1s in the film were chambered in .45 ACP.
The policeman who removes Dillinger's handcuffs after he is arrested in the hotel has a very early production Smith & Wesson Military & Police revolver in his holster. It has the rounded hard rubber grips only used between 1899-1905.
Colt Thompson Hybrids
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) and some of his gangsters, notably "Baby Face" Nelson (Stephen Graham), and FBI agent Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) use Thompson Submachine Guns guns throughout the film. One of Dillinger's Thompsons has the stock removed and is attached to a lanyard. John "Red" Hamilton (Jason Clarke) and several other of Dillinger's bank robbers use Thompsons, Hamilton wielding two when Dillinger enters the Chicago mob's betting parlor after breaking out of the Crown Point jail. "Pretty Boy" Floyd (Channing Tatum) is carrying one as he is being pursued by Purvis. During the breakout, Dillinger hands a Thompson to Herbert Youngblood (Michael Bentt). The guns used in the film were a mix of Colt M1921's (Some the same used in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull) with 1928 internals, M1928A1's refinished to look like M1921's (by adding a polished blued finish) and there were some Thompson hybrids that were built out of various models. (thanks goes to Steve Karnes for the information on the guns)
One of Dillinger's bank robbers Homer Van Meter (Stephen Dorff) uses a Browning Automatic Rifle during several of the gang's robberies. One of Purvis' (Christian Bale) men is also seen firing a BAR during the Little Bohemia shootout. Van Meter's BAR has a notabley shorter barrel than the standard models released, although it was actually Bonnie & Clyde who favored the sawed down BARs, and not Dillinger's gang. The weapons were modified in the "Bonnie & Clyde" configuration and supplied by Gibbons Ltd. for the film.
Mauser 98 Sporter
Melvin Purvis fires a half-stocked Mauser Rifle Series when searching for "Pretty Boy" Floyd (Channing Tatum) in Ohio. He ultimately uses it to fatally wound Floyd after taking a well aimed shot at him as he flees, making use of the double set triggers to lighten the trigger pull and make his shot more accurate. This is a German-style purpose-vuilt sporter with a ribbed barrel, express sights and a flat "butterknife" style bolt handle, and not a converted military rifle. It is not, as some have suggested, a Mannlicher-Schonauer, though they were quite popular among sportsman of the era.
Ed Shouse (Michael Vieau) is seen firing a Winchester Model 1907 fitted with a 10-round magazine and a Thompson foregrip during the Little Bohemia shootout. Homer is seen using one during the botched robbery. This is historically accurate since this weapon was found among the weaponry in Dillinger's crew and is seen in the famous picture. Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) also comments to his fellow FBI agents how they will be issued "Winchester .351 semi-automatic rifles", which are Model 1907s. Some FBI agents are seen carrying unmodified versions in the film, and Red Hamilton can be seen aiming one when he and Dillinger are turned away from the mafia whorehouse.
FBI agents and police in the film are seen carrying Winchester Model 1897 shotguns. When Billie Frechette (Marion Cotillard) is apprehended by the FBI, one of the agents is seen carrying "Trench" model with a heat shield and a bayonet lug. Tommy Carroll (Spencer Garrett) uses a Winchester '97 during the Sioux Falls bank robbery.

Some FBI agents and John "Red" Hamilton (Jason Clarke) carry Remington Model 11 shotguns, most of which have sawed down stock and barrels. The weapon used in the film was indeed a genuine Remington Model 11 and not a Browning A5 as stated previously. The Remington shotgun in this configuration was frequently called the Whippet gun by gangsters of the era, because of how you could "Whip-it" out from under your coat or shoulder to fire.
Dillinger's Colt .38 Super "Machine Pistol"
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) carried a rather unique firearm at one point, an Colt .38 Super chambered in .38 Super (which would pierce the police officer's body armor when the .45 ACP round wouldn't) which was specially modified to fire full auto, loaded with an extended magazine, was fitted with a Thompson's foregrip and a Thompson's Cutts compensator to turn it into a miniaturized "machine pistol". In the film Dillinger is sadly never seen using it, and it is only wielded in the hands of "Baby Face" Nelson (Stephen Graham), who uses it during the Little Bohemia shootout to fire out the windows and later to gun down an FBI agent before stealing his vehicle.
M1903 Springfield
M1903 Springfield rifles are carried by the guards at Michigan Lake prison and soldiers guarding the streets after Dillinger's prison break. They are also used by the prison guards at the Michigan City prison. They are not, as previously suggested, 1940s-era M1903A3s, but the correct M1903, identified by it's humped upper handguard.
US Krag M1898
The uniformed police officers aiding in Purvis' pursuit of Pretty Boy Floyd carry US Krag rifles, most likely M1898s. Similarly, a plainclothes guard is seen carrying an M1898 Krag carbine when Dillinger leaves his interview at the jail.
Winchester Model 1892 rifles are used by prison guards at the Michigan City prison. One is also used by a vigilante to graze Dillinger in the shoulder during the Sioux Falls bank robbery botched by "Baby Face" Nelson.
The gun safe in the prison consists of a lot of revolvers, some thompsons and some other rifles.
Special
This is a collection of firearms that where captured from the real Dillinger gang. As you can see the makers of the movie put a lot of these weapons into the movie. Included with the weapons is Dillinger's death mask and the hat he wore when he was killed. Above the hat is the clothes he was wearing when he died including his sunglasses and the cigar he had.
Several FBI agents are seen with Colt Detective Specials, usually seen in their hip holsters. Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) is notabley seen with one holstered in several scenes.
Colt M1911A1
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) carries two Colt M1911A1 pistols kept in a cross-draw shoulder holster rig through out the film, although he rarely fires them.

Smith & Wesson Military & Police
== Browning Automatic Rifle ==
==Mauser 98 Sporter==
Winchester Model 1907
Remington Model 11

Winchester Model 1892
Winchester Model 1892 rifles are used by prison guards at the Michigan City prison. One is also used by a vigilante to graze Dillinger in the shoulder during the Sioux Falls bank robbery botched by "Baby Face" Nelson.

Fake Gun
While in prison Dillinger made a gun out of wood and painted it black with shoe polish. He used this gun to break out.

Gun Safe
The gun safe in the prison consists of a lot of revolvers, some thompsons and some other rifles.
Special
This is a collection of firearms that where captured from the real Dillinger gang. As you can see the makers of the movie put a lot of these weapons into the movie. Included with the weapons is Dillinger's death mask and the hat he wore when he was killed. Above the hat is the clothes he was wearing when he died including his sunglasses and the cigar he had.
Colt Detective Special
Several FBI agents are seen with Colt Detective Specials, usually seen in their hip holsters. Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) is notabley seen with one holstered in several scenes.
Colt M1911A1
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) carries two Colt M1911A1 pistols kept in a cross-draw shoulder holster rig through out the film, although he rarely fires them.

Smith & Wesson Military & Police
Browning Automatic Rifle
Remington Model 11
Colt M1911A1
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) carries two Colt M1911A1 pistols kept in a cross-draw shoulder holster rig through out the film, although he rarely fires them.
Smith & Wesson Military & Police
Browning Automatic Rifle
Remington Model 11
Colt M1911A1
John Dillinger (Johnny Depp) carries two Colt M1911A1 pistols kept in a cross-draw shoulder holster rig through out the film, although he rarely fires them.
Browning Automatic Rifle
Remington Model 11
Smith & Wesson Military & Police
The uniformed police officers aiding in Purvis' pursuit of Pretty Boy Floyd carry US Krag rifles, most likely M1898s. Similarly, a plainclothes guard is seen carrying an M1898 Krag carbine when Dillinger leaves his interview at the jail.

Firearms in "Public Enemies" Trailer
The "unidentified rifle" is actually the Remington Model 8 autoloader. Another semiauto rifle appears in the very last screenshot under the Thompson SMG section. While the bank robber in the foreground has a Thompson, the guy in the background is armed with what appears to be a Winchester Model 1907. Look closely at how the guy is holding the weapon at the trigger guard, it's obvious there's no pistol grip there and it's actually a stocked rifle. This particular rifle is modified with a vertical foregrip so at first glance it does appear to be a Thompson. These rifles were used by the Dillinger gang and can be seen in this photo of confiscated weapons: http://www.auto-ordnance.com/AO-3F3.html In the photo, a Winchester modified with a muzzle brake is right next to the Thompson.
I also think I saw a Remington Model 11 autoloading shotgun in the trailer. It was in the hands of the FBI agent who bursts into Dillinger's room and knocks him down.--Phillb36 22:57, 9 March 2009 (UTC)
Phillb36 - you are absolutely correct that the rifle in the backround is a Winchester 1907 - you can clearly see the distinctive 10-round magazine - good call! This should be a heck of a good movie.

Nyles here, didn't bother logging in. Man At Arms For The Gun Collector has an interesting article in the current issue that claims Dillinger carried a Super 38, not a .45 Government Model, and that the infamous machine pistols were also .38 Supers.
::Dillinger carried .38 Supers, but we won't simply claim that on the page as one anonymous user kept doing (with poor grammer/spelling) because we don't actually know that they didn't just use .45s. Since Steve took photos of some of the guns used in this movie (note the M1911A1 from the film in the picture is in .45 ACP), he'd likely know if any of the guns were in .38 Super. Just assuming isn't good gun identification. Also, I think Purvis favored the .38 Super as well, but I may be wrong on that. As for the revolvers used in the movie, wait till the DVD comes out before we ID those, we can't play that as well by memory. - Gunmaster45
What was the shoulder rig Depp used??

Colt Terminology
There's some incorrect terminology used in this (and, technically, many other) articles in the site, but on this one it's really noticable. M1911 and M1911A1 only refers to pistols made for the US military - pistols made for the civilian market, with or without the A1 modifications, were called the 1911 Government Model. Now, that's a nitpicky point, since they're commonly refered to as 1911s today, and you usually have to see the markings to know the difference (though by the same token that's like calling every Beretta 92 an M9).

But what makes it glaring here is calling a .38 Super an M1911A1. It's not the same gun - not only was it not a military-issue pistol (the US military, since it's introduction in 1932, has acquired a grand total of 2 .38 Supers, depending on if you count a few hundred for the OSS), Colt didn't even consider it the same as a Government Model. It was sold as the Super 38, and that IS the commonly accepted term for it. Seems to me if we know it's a .38 Super, then we should be calling it a Super 38.
::Visit the M1911 pistol series page for an explaination on why we call them M1911A1s, regardless. - Gunmaster45
:::: I agree that it's pointless to try and differentiate M1911s from commerical 1911s (though I'd rather see them just called 1911s instead of M1911s), but a Super 38 isn't an M1911A1 OR a Government Model, it's a Super 38. I'm not saying it needs it's own page but it ought to have it's own heading on the 1911 page. Although it's kinda of a moot point, looking at the prop I see it's a 1960s era gun that they slapped some (incorrect) double diamond grips on, and by then production of .38 Supers actually had merged with the .45s.

Nyles: What you are say is correct in a way. The sales staff at Colt still called it a 1911 Government Model even though the pistol had the 1911A1 modifications to it. So to everyone out there that sees it it's a 1911A1 even the Colt Model 1927 pistols so to Brazil. The .38 Super like the .22 Ace is still based on the 1911A1 Government Model frame as only the top end is different. There is no point to make a sepparate page for the .38 Super variation. I know it's good to point this out but I agree was Gunmaster45 that it should stay the same. -Phoenixent 23:59, 11 July 2009 (UTC)

::::I'm nor saying that we should make a seperate page, I say that quite clearly up there. Just that you shouldn't call a Super 38 an M1911. We differentiate between a 1911A1 and a Series 70, when the only difference is the barrel, a gun marketed under a different name, in a different caliber, using a different system for headspacing, should also be differentiated.

Also, the Model 1927 wasn't made for Brazil, it was for and in Argentina. Brazil used the S&W M1937, which was an updated M1917 revolver.

:I wouldn't be totally opposed to making a separate entry on the 1911 page for the 38 Super. Only question is, do we know of any other movies besides Public Enemies that have used one? If not, then it seems just a tad pointless. -MT2008

::The only .38 Super used in the movie was the machine pistol and it was changed to 9mm so what is the problem. You are shoveling .... on this the 1911 is the original configuration, the 1911A1 is a 1911 with governmernt changes, the series 70 has changes and the series 80 has changes. Each weapon had the designation changed either offically or unoffically to acknowledge the changes so what is the problem on this. Is the 38 super a completely different weapon the the 1911A1? The answer is no as you are talking about 7 parts in the top end and the frames and lower parts are all the same. I agree with MT2008 that it would be pointless to make a separate entry for it just not the differance. This is a listing of 1911 style handguns used in film not a Colt Automatic Pistol website with all change and part variations. The handguns used in the film are 1911A1 pre-war commercial pistols in .45 used to represent Dillingers .38 Super pistols. The machine pistol shoild have a separate entry as it might show up in another movie.-Phoenixent 09:47, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
Tell your propmaker to copy the standard 'government' 1911, make a fake extended magazine, make a fake barrel poking out 2 inchs beyond the frame of the gun, and attach a thompson forend pistolgrip. You should be able to collect pictures of the specific parts and he should be able to cobble it together
Purvis' Rifle
Nice thought with the Mannlicher-Schonauer (in fact that probably would have been more appropriate), but the rifle is definately a Mauser. The Mannlicher-Schonauer had the standard Mannlicher split-bridge receiver, whereas that has a solid Mauser action with the bolt handle behind the receiver bridge. The flat "butterknife" bolt handle was a popular feature on German sporting rifles in the early 20th century, and can still be found.

EDIT: This is Nyles by the way. My Afghan net isn't letting me log in today.

Also, I'm pretty sure that after the jail break scene in the beginning, when they hole up at the whorehouse, you see Dillingers right hand man with a Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer tucked into his waistband. It's kind of hard to tell on the pirated copy I bought at the KAF market.

Screencaps
Anybody know how to take screencaps on VLC media player? It's the only DVD player I have on my computer and it won't take the screencaps properly. I'm wondering if anybody knows how to do it.
:There is a screencap button on the toolbar. Are you having trouble finding the pics after you take them? You need to go to Tools, then Preferences at the bottom. Click video that is where you set up the directory where the pics go. Also change the pic type to jpeg, png's take up too much room. You can also change the pic name too. For Public Enemies you change the prefix to PE-. Hope that helps.--Predator20 03:05, 15 December 2009 (UTC)
:Thanks, that helped a lot.
