The [[Beretta M92F#Beretta 92 FS|Beretta M92FS]] is the primary weapon of Detective Martin Riggs ([[Mel Gibson]]). In a memorable scene in the film, Riggs takes out his Beretta and loads a single round into the chamber and comes close to comitting suicide with it, but ultimately can't pull it off. He claims to have a special hollow-point bullet saved for that purpose, which he eventually gives to Murtaugh as a symbolic gift at the end of the film (though it's actually a standard full metal jacketed round, not a hollow-point). He's also highly proficient with the weapon, able to draw a smiley face on a silhouette target at several dozen yards with it, much to his partner's bewilderment.

== Smith & Wesson Model 19 ==

The [[Smith & Wesson Model 19]] is the primary weapon of Detective Roger Murtaugh ([[Danny Glover]]). In a famous scene in the movie which is repeated in the second film, Murtaugh rolls his neck before dispatching one of the main villains with a single shot from his Model 19. At one point, Murtaugh gives his revolver to Riggs and challenges him to prove his sincerity in his claims of being suicidal. Riggs then places the barrel under his chin and slowly squeezes the trigger, Murtaugh blocking the hammer with his finger at the last moment being the only thing that keeps the weapon from firing. :Nope, it's well-known that ''[[Die Hard]]'' also features the simple HK94 conversions which were from the Stembridge Gun Rentals inventory. I have DH on DVD, and you can clearly see in the elevator shaft that the MP5 has the all-metal trigger group and no paddle mag release, just like on an HK94. The barrels are also missing the three lugs for muzzle attachments, another distinguishing feature of an HK94 with a chopped barrel.

Mr. Joshua is also seen using one fitted with a scope atop the carry handle; first to assassinate Michael Hunsacker ([[Tom Atkins]]) from a helicopter at the funeral of his daughter, then during a running shootout with Riggs on an L.A. freeway, and finally when he reaches Murtaugh's house and starts shooting the place apart. In the latter appearance, it has two magazines taped together 'jungle style'.

:MoviePropMaster2008 has explained that these are actually civilian AR15 SP1s which have been visually modified to look like XM177s, with fake flash hiders and shorter barrels.

== Walther PPK ==

While following up on a lead, Riggs and Murtaugh are jumped by a hoodlum brandishing a shotgun. After Murtaugh wounds him and tries to cuff him, the man pulls a stainless steel [[Walther PPK]] out of his coat, to which Riggs reacts by fatally shooting him, the hoodlum's death further assured when he falls into a plastic-covered swimming pool.

== Remington 870 ==

While following up on a lead, Riggs and Murtaugh are jumped by a hoodlum brandishing a sawed-off [[Remington 870]] shotgun. Murtaugh is able to disable him with a shot to the leg with his revolver. Mr. Joshua can also be seen wielding an 870 when he attempts to kill Riggs in a drive-by shooting.

== M26 Grenade ==

When attempting to flee from the protagonists, General McAllister's car flips and bursts into flames after Murtaugh shoots and kills the driver. In addition to heroin, the car also contains several [[M26 hand grenade]]s which are eventually detonated by the fire, killing the General. During the attempt to rescue Rianne, Murtaugh pulls out what appears to be an M26 grenade, claiming that he'll kill everyone present including himself and his daughter if she's not released. Mr. Joshua however calls his bluff and shoots him in the shoulder. Murtaugh then weakly tosses it at the Shadow Company goons making them scurry for cover, but it reveals itself to be a smoke grenade disguised as a Frag grenade, and is also the signal for Riggs to open fire with his sniper rifle.

In two scenes, Joshua (Gary Busey) uses a possible Smith and Wesson Model 59. He shoots Murtaugh in one scene when Murtaugh holds the grenade, and shoots two uniformed police officers randomly.

According to another user (thanks, Orca.), this is not a Model 59. I watched the DVD and had it in slow mo, and it's probably a small-framed Beretta or Walther. Most likely a Beretta Jetfire, but NOT a Model 59.

There is a story to this one. FBI agents in the year of the shootout carried Smith and Wesson Model 459 pistols, however, the 459 was discontinued the year this film was made. So, they had to go to the 5906.

Mr. Joshua is also seen using one fitted with a scope atop the carry handle; first to assassinate Michael Hunsacker ([[Tom Atkins]]) from a helicopter at the funeral of his daughter, then during a running shootout with Riggs on an L.A. freeway, and finally when he reaches Murtaugh's house and starts shooting the place apart. In the latter appearance, it has two magazines taped together 'jungle style'.

:MoviePropMaster2008 has explained that these are actually civilian AR15 SP1s which have been visually modified to look like XM177s, with fake flash hiders and shorter barrels.

== Walther PPK ==

While following up on a lead, Riggs and Murtaugh are jumped by a hoodlum brandishing a shotgun. After Murtaugh wounds him and tries to cuff him, the man pulls a stainless steel [[Walther PPK]] out of his coat, to which Riggs reacts by fatally shooting him, the hoodlum's death further assured when he falls into a plastic-covered swimming pool.

== Remington 870 ==

While following up on a lead, Riggs and Murtaugh are jumped by a hoodlum brandishing a [[Remington 870]] shotgun. Murtaugh is able to disable him with a shot to the leg with his revolver. Mr. Joshua can also be seen wielding one when he attempts to kill Riggs in a drive-by shooting.

== M26 Grenade ==

When attempting to flee from the protagonists, General McAllister's car flips and bursts into flames after Murtaugh shoots and kills the driver. In addition to heroin, the car also contains several [[M26 hand grenade]]s which are eventually detonated by the fire, killing the General. During the attempt to rescue Rianne, Murtaugh pulls out what appears to be an M26 grenade, claiming that he'll kill everyone present including himself and his daughter if she's not released. Mr. Joshua however calls his bluff and shoots him in the shoulder. Murtaugh then weakly tosses it at the Shadow Company goons making them scurry for cover, but it reveals itself to be a smoke grenade disguised as a Frag grenade, and is also the signal for Riggs to open fire with his sniper rifle.

In a deleted scene, Riggs responds to a call of a sniper armed with an [[M14 Rifle|M14 rifle]] who has already shot several officers and a 9 year-old girl, the sight of the wounded girl being carried away driving Riggs to confront the sniper on his own, the sniper firing several shots that fail to hit their mark, Riggs unloading the magazine of his Beretta into the gunman.

Detective Michael Dooley (Jim Belushi) uses a Beretta 92F with wood grips as his primary weapon in this movie. The wood grips can only be seen when Dooley lays the gun down on a hospital tray table.

== Heckler and Koch MP5A3 ==

During the scene where a man in a helicopter shoots and blows up Dooley's car, a Heckler and Koch MP5A3 can be seen firing at the car.

== Smith and Wesson Model 5906 ==

At the end of the movie, Lyman (Kevin Tighe) uses a 9mm Smith and Wesson 5906 in stainless steel. He uses it first to hold Dooley's wife, Tracie (Mel Harris) at gunpoint, and again to shoot Jerry Lee (the dog in the film).

When Dooley says the line "You think this is a Nine Millimeter mistake?", he wasn't kidding. People have said that it is really a 4506, but close examination of freeze frames reveal it's a 9mm 5906.

Throughout the film, uniformed officers of the San Diego PD can be seen wearing and aiming Smith and Wesson Model 14 revolvers. Contradictions state that the guns are really Model 27s, but examination of the barrel reveals it is really a .38 Model 14.
