The M2 60mm Mortar was developed by the US Army Ordnance Department. It gave the infantry an indirect fire weapon to span the gap between hand grenades and the 81mm mortar. First order was placed in 1940 and during World War II, more than 60,000 M2 mortars were produced by the Read Machinery Co., Kennedy–Van Saun, and the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company.
It appears most shoulder arms in this game have been modeled with their bolts and ejection ports on the left side of the firearm.

Handguns
M1911A1
The M1911A1, called "M1911" in-game, is the standard US/ARVN sidearm, with a 9-round magazine (Note that the Standard USGI M1911A1 actually has a 7-Round Magazine). In the reload animation you can see the player putting a magazine in, the slide moves forward and then he pulls the slide again. In reality he would waste one round by doing that.
The 6-inch barrel Smith & Wesson Model 19, called "M-19" is the standard US Special Forces sidearm, replacing the M1911A1. It is more powerful than the other handguns, killing in one shot to the head and two to the body. Holds six rounds in its cylinder and reloads using a speedloader.
The Norinco Model 54 pistol is the Chinese copy of the Tokarev TT-33 Pistol, except that the Chinese model has a frame mounted safety. The Model 54 is the standard NVA/VC sidearm, the magazine holds 8 rounds of 7.62x25mm Tokarev.
Colt M16A1
The M16A1 Rifle is used by US Army, US Marine and ARVN Assault classes as their main choices. A semi-auto only variant with a scope is used by all of the US Factions and ARVN and is issued to the scout as a sniper weapon, both have 20-round mags. The scoped variant has a silencer in the menu and sounds like a silenced M16 but has no visible silencer while playing. Also, note how the weapon has been reversed, with having the ejection port on the left side.
Type 56 Assault Rifle
The Type 56 Assault Rifle is the Standard NVA weapon and the underfolding bayonet cannot be used. The NVA uses standard-stocked Type 56s (called "AK-47" in-game) while the Vietcong uses underfolder-stock Type 56-1s (called "AKMS"). == M60 ==
The M60 machine gun is issued to the ARVN and all US force's Heavy Assault. It is is perhaps the most infamous weapon in the game due to a well-known early balance issue; the release version of the game featured a US kit with the M60 and LAW, with the M60 extremely damaging (you pointed it at people and they died) and accurate enough to be used for sniping. This essentially meant games boiled to to re-enactments of Rambo: First Blood Part 2, only with the same number of John Rambos as Vietnamese. This was quickly addressed in patches; the M60 was placed in a kit with the M79 rather than the much more powerful LAW, and both machine guns were made drastically less accurate, unless used while prone.
The driver can choose to fire the guns one at a time or all together, with the Ontos' four spotting rifles not usable and its usual hatch-mounted 30 cal not present. Thankfully, the game does not replicate the real vehicle's need to get out in order to reload, and the Ontos simply reloads itself after 5 seconds.
The SA-7 Grail, called "SA-7", is issued to NVA and Vietcong Heavy Assault classes. It doesn't actually lock on to aircraft, but will rather follow and fly into aircraft that fly nearby when it is fired. It is also a surprisingly effective anti-tank weapon.
The BGM-71 TOW is seen mounted on some Ford M151 MUTT vehicles. Up to a certain patch it incorrectly fired unguided rockets. The M50 "Ontos" light tank is armed with six M40A1C recoilless rifles, a special version of the M40 Recoilless Rifle.
Weapon listings from popular mods for BF2?
I think this game's popular mods have been unfairly ignored in this wiki. While certainly this game doesn't have quite the fan following like Counter-Strike does, I think some of BF2's more popular mods deserve an entry. One of these is "Project Reality," a mod that tries its damnedest to incorporate more realistic gameplay elements and armaments for the various factions, and has already added quite a few nation-specific armies as factions to their mod, such as the Canadian Forces, the Russian Army, the Israeli Defence Force, etc. Version 0.9 of the mod was recently released and can be gotten here.--Mazryonh 05:10, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
:I'll download this mod when it comes out and will work on adding the weapons for it, as it looks like it has some unique weapons not mentioned in the main BF2 article, including the Galil, Tavor-series bullpups, Colt Canada C7A2, and a few others. Orca1 9904 05:18, 5 February 2010 (UTC)

:I'd certainly appreciate your efforts, but I was also wondering whether or not Project Reality deserves its own page much like Insurgency, a mod for Counter-Strike, already has one of its own. The gameplay is certainly quite different, and you can get an idea of just how different it is by reading the new manual for the 0.9 version. --Mazryonh 16:33, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
I think it would be a good idea to give PR its own page, or its own section at the very least.
