Also known as the L96A1 in British military service; This model is the basis for the Arctic Warfare series of tactical rifles and is currently produced in calibers .243 Win and .308 Win and normally fitted with a 660mm (26") match grade barrel for accurate long range performance. The .243 Win has a 1 in 10 twist and the .308 Win 1 in 12.

The .308 Win version AW is fitted with a muzzle brake which serves to reduce recoil and muzzle flip. The AW is normally supplied with a 10 round magazine. Both versions are housed in either olive drab or black stock panels and black metalwork. Butt length can be adjusted by fitting spacers to suit the firer.

The FN Minimi was a combination 'belt fed'/magazine fed' light machine gun, designed to serve in the role of "Squad Automatic Weapon". The SAW was a mobile suppressive fire platform that was light weight and single man transportable - much more so than the venerable M60 (which was always supposed to be a General Purpose Machine Gun, i.e. a crew served weapon). The U.S. Military adopted the first models of the FN Minimi in the 1980s directly as the XM249 or later as the M249 (with some slight design changes in the official U.S. Adopted version. Later versions of the gun, reflected upgrades and design changes that were requested by the U.S. Military.

On a historical note: in the first months of the First Gulf War (Operation Desert Storm 1990), there were not enough M249s to supply the massive troop buildup in the Middle East, so the U.S. Army bought outright a number of unaltered FN Minimis directly from FN, to supplement the weapons. So it is not inaccurate to see first pattern FN Minimis in the hands of U.S. Soldiers who are supposedly issued M249 SAWs since the Army mixed the two versions together until the Late 1990s.

The C9 is a variant of the Minimi used by the Canadian Armed Forces, identifiable by the open front sight as opposed to the hooded front sights on other Minimi variants. The MG42 was the World War 2 upgrade of the [[MG34]]. Though a different enough design to merit being listed as a different gun, the MG42 was an attempt by Wartime Germany to create a crew served machine gun that was easier to manufacture. The MG42 used stampings whereas the MG34 was a finely machined gun, thus slow to produce in large quantities. It was chambered in 7.92x57mm Mauser aka 8mm Mauser also tested after the war in .30-06 at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland.

The first MP5s looked very different than the MP5s that Movie and television viewers have become accustomed to. Since the early models were rarely (if ever) seen outside of Europe and not manufactured in the same numbers as the common variants (starting with the A2), this page begins with the MP5A2 model, since that is the earliest model MP5 that would be seen in World Cinema.

Also many MP5A2s (and A3s) were retrofitted with ambidextrous Navy lower trigger groups (both in the real world and Movie armories) and many times these MP5N models are confused with the newer factory issued MP5A4s and MP5A5s. The MP5-N (Navy) has a unique 3 lug and threaded barrel unique to the N variant versus four firing positions (which indicates it is a factory A4 or A5 variant).

The Heckler & Koch HK94 was the civilian semiautomatic version of the famous MP5 Submachine gun (with the 'legal' 16" carbine barrel). Imported in the early to late 1980s (it's importation banned in 1989 by Executive Order), many more HK94s were imported into the country than factory original MP5s during that time period. All civilian MP5s actually began as semi only HK94s which were converted prior to the domestic machine gun ban of 1986. There are no "transferable" factory HK MP5s as they would have needed to be imported prior to the foreign machine gun ban found in the GCA of 1968.

What makes it unique is that many parts are interchangeable with Airsoft MP5 parts, so many gun enthusiasts are putting on telescoping stocks, fake suppressors, tactical flash lights fore ends and rails on these .22 Carbines and pistols.

The first MP5s looked very different than the MP5s that Movie and television viewers have become accustomed to. Since the early models were rarely (if ever) seen outside of Europe and not manufactured in the same numbers as the common variants (starting with the A2), this page begins with the MP5A2 model, since that is the earliest model MP5 that would be seen in World Cinema.

Also many MP5A2s (and A3s) were retrofitted with ambidextrous Navy lower trigger groups (both in the real world and Movie armories) and many times these MP5N models are confused with the newer factory issued MP5A4s and MP5A5s. The MP5-N (Navy) has a unique 3 lug and threaded barrel unique to the N variant versus four firing positions (which indicates it is a factory A4 or A5 variant).

The Heckler & Koch HK94 was the civilian semiautomatic version of the famous MP5 Submachine gun (with the 'legal' 16" carbine barrel). Imported in the early to late 1980s (it's importation banned in 1989 by Executive Order), many more HK94s were imported into the country than factory original MP5s during that time period. All civilian MP5s actually began as semi only HK94s which were converted prior to the domestic machine gun ban of 1986. There are no "transferable" factory HK MP5s as they would have needed to be imported prior to the foreign machine gun ban found in the GCA of 1968.

==German Sport Guns GSG5 Semi Auto Carbine==

German Sport Guns began importing the GSG5 Sporting Carbine into the U.S. in 2007. It is not a Heckler & Koch firearm, but is a .22 LR clone of the MP5. What makes it unique is that many parts are interchangeable with Airsoft MP5 parts, so many gun enthusiasts are putting on telescoping stocks, fake suppressors, tactical flash lights fore ends and rails on these .22 Carbines and pistols.
