It looks to me like most of the guns in this movie are non-firing replicas; I know I've seen these guns with these specific finishes on several 'Replica guns' sites.
The Thompson, the Schofield, the 1911 (which appears to me to be a resin copy), GP100, SAA, the sawn-off shotgun with hammers, and quite possibly the unknown guns; All can be found on such sites as Collector's Armory, Replica Gun Swords, Replica Weaponry, and so forth. Looks to me like one of these was this film's one-stop-shop. --E2theSamps 20:14, 11 March 2012 (CDT)

The following firearms are seen in pre-release material for the upcoming video game "Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City", slated for release this winter. Weapon selection screens and info from a viral marketing site have revealed icons for most of the weapons. Many of them are signature weapons from previous Resident Evil games.

There are at least a couple of flintlocks in this. Early in the film, a flintlock rifle is handed to someone about to go and join up - it could even be a small gunsmith's shop. Also, when the 20th Maine first muster, still in civilian clothes, at least one flintlock is visible.
Among the defenders of Fredericksburg, manning barricades on the riverfront, one has a percussion muzzleloader with telescopic sight. Is this more likely to be a dedicated target rifle?
One of the bullets removed from General Jackson is shown, and correctly described as a smoothbore musket ball.

-I don't have a DVD available at present, but if I had to guess, the aforementioned scoped rifle may be a depiction of the Whitworth rifle. Or it could also be a bench rifle; many sharpshooter regiments kept a few bench rifles (scoped or otherwise) handy for use in defensive positions (as they were too heavy and finicky to be used in attacking.)--E2theSamps 21:20, 29 October 2011 (CDT)

Gods and Generals is the 2003 American Civil War film that depicts the Battles of Bull Run, Fredricksburg, and Chancellorville. The film was an adaptation of a Jeff Shaara novel about the Civil War (its prequel, 1993's Gettysburg was based on 'The Killer Angels', written by Shaara's father, Michael). Several cast members from the 1993 film returned for the 2003 prequel including Jeff Daniels, C. Thomas Howell, and Stephen Lang (who stars as a different character in this film). Robert Duvall co-stars as General Robert E. Lee (Duvall is a actual relative of the Confederate general).
The script (καὶ τὸ φῶς ἐν τῇ σκοτίᾳ φαίνει on the right side and και η σκοτια αυτο ου κατελαβεν on the left side) is a quote from the Bible (John 1:5) "And the light shineth in darkness and the darkness comprehended it not," whence the weapon's name "A Light Shining in Darkness" is derived.

10mm SMG (Heckler & Koch SMG-2)
The 10mm SMG from Fallout 3 is found on many mid level humanoid mobs such as Jackal gang members and members of the Kings. It can also be found as level adjusted loot in gun lockers once you're at a high enough level. It bares a distinct resemblance to the Prototype from the Defunct H&K SMG Programme, though the pistol grip and trigger guard are that of the Thompson line of submachine guns.

Although the in game description for the 10mm SMG lists a high DPS it shares the common weakness of most shotguns and automatic weapons in Fallout New Vegas in that much of its theoretical power is negated by the new Damage Threshold system. In addition to losing much of its damage, the high spread of this weapon requires you to be at close ranges for all of the rounds fired to impact on the target.

Keeping these limitations in mind, it can be highly effective in certain situations. It can be an ideal sneak attack weapon if you have a high enough Sneak skill to get in to point blank range. Coupled with the Run 'n Gun perk you can "kite" melee enemies by backing away just out of their reach. Against ranged attackers you can fire a shot, duck around a corner or behind cover then ambush them at point blank range as they run up to you.

M1928 Thompson
An M1928 Thompson modified to be an energy weapon appears as the Laser RCW. It also resembles the Tommy Gun-esque laser guns from the TV show Futurama, as evidenced by the three glowing green rings at the end of the barrel. It holds 60 Electron Charge Packs in a drum and can be modified with a Recycler attachment, which replenishes 1 shot per 4 fired. In addition, on the rear portion of the receiver, it has a rail top carry handle based on the H&K G36C's.
The M1A1 Thompson appears as the .45 Auto SMG, introduced in the "Honest Hearts" DLC. It can be modified with a new magazine well to accept the M1921/M1928 50-round drum magazines, as well as a Cutts compensator to reduce spread under sustained fire.

There are 2 variants of this rifle in the game, but basically they both look like the Colt Model 933 with SIRS rails and a PRS stock. They both have a low-power ACOG-style scope. The unique variant is painted with woodland camouflage. The standard variant is called the Marksman Carbine and the unique is called the All American. Like the Service Rifle, both these rifles lack the charging handle on the rear, which is located on the moving bolt on the right side where the brass ejects instead. The All American is found only in the armory at the bottom of the irradiated-ghoul infested Vault 34 located east of New Vegas.
Colt M16A1
NCR soldiers wield the M16A1, which is called the "Service Rifle" in-game. It is chambered for 5.56x45mm NATO and is semi-auto only. It features wood furniture instead of the nylon-plastic furniture typical of real M16s. The upper receiver has a forward assist and a case deflector. Like all of the other M16 derivatives in this game, the Service Rifle's charging handle is located on the side of the receiver, between the forward assist and the ejector port. Can be modified with a forged receiver that increases its durability and upgraded springs that increase its fire rate. An aperture sight and bayonet are included in the files, but not implemented.

A unique Service Rifle called the Survivalist's Rifle appears in the Honest Hearts DLC. It was the weapon of a US Army serviceman who fled to Zion Canyon after the Great War. In-game lore describes the weapon as a "U.S. Checkpoint Guard Carbine built around the 12.7mm caliber, to offer guards firepower necessary to intercept anyone attempting to breach a checkpoint, regardless of equipment." It is based on the AR-15 .50 Beowulf upper receiver tested for US serviceman to stop vehicles at checkpoints. It features a blocky heat shield somewhat reminiscent of the M16 LSW/LMG, but has numerous makeshift repairs along the body work and a damaged front sight. The words Stop and Arrêt! are scrawled onto the stock of the weapon, a stamp on the receiver reads "PROPERTY OF U.S. GOVT CHKPNT CARBINE 12.7MM CAL," and a stamp above the trigger reads "LONG BRANCH ARSENAL ONTARIO, USA TERRITORY."
The shotgun can also be upgraded with a shotgun choke that decreases the spread of each shot.
The gun itself appears to be an 'over-and-under' style; visually, it bears resemblance to a Winchester Model 101, though the Model 101 is chambered for 12-Gauge shells, not 20.
M1 Garand
The M1 Garand was supposed to appear in Fallout: New Vegas as the "Battle Rifle", but withheld from the final product. However, its unique variant was left in, called This Machine (as in Woody Gunthrie's 'This Machine Kills Fascists'; 'Well This Machine Kills Commies' is inscribed on the left side of the gun). The rifle has been rechambered to fire .308 Winchester / 7.62x51mm NATO. It has poor accuracy, but high damage and rate of fire. The Gun Runners' Arsenal DLC released in September of 2011 re-added the non-unique variant into the standard game.
The Winchester 1886 appears as the Cowboy Repeater, it takes 357. Magnum ammunition and it can take down light armoured enemies from a distance. There is a special variant, called the La Longue Carabine fitted with a scope, engraved stock and Octagon Barrel, but it reloads like the Henry 1860 in Fallout 3 (which is done by opening the muzzle-end of the mag tube and then inserting rounds in) as the La Longue's model lacks the 1886's loading port on the receiver.
Gettysburg is the 1993 war film that depicts the events of the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War. First airing as a two night event on the TNT network, the film was based on a novel The Killer Angels by Michael Shaara. For the massive battle scenes, the production employed Civil War reenactors who provided their own kit, allowing the shooting of the scenes on a relatively modest budget, and making the uniforms and weapons seen remarkably accurate for the period. Several characters from this film would return in the 2003 prequel, Gods and Generals (which was also adapted from a Shaara novel).
The most commonly seen weapon in the film is the Enfield Pattern 1853, carried by Union and Confederate troops, often in the same unit as Springfields. Although this was common in the Confederate Army, the Union issued Enfields and Springfields separately to simplify logistics.
-Actually, 36% of Union regiments at Gettysburg were armed with two or more types of weapons. For example, the 20th Maine had a mixture of Springfields, Enfields, and Austrian Lorenz rifles. In fact, at the time (and even more so after Gettysburg), the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia was more efficient in standardizing specific weapon calibers on a regimental level than the Union Army of the Potomac.
It's a bit odd seeing a Remington Zouave rifle here, considering its use is highly frowned upon in the reenactor community. 20,000 of these were produced, but none were ever issued during the war; a pity, since they were found in shooting tests to be highly accurate. When reenacting started catching on, the unused Zouave rifles became quite popular, given the used state of actual frontline weapons and the rarity of reproduction companies. But today, many groups will not allow Remington Zouave rifles, since they are not period accurate and their shorter barrel length can place the muzzle dangerously close to the face of a crouched shooter in volley fires.
And to reiterate: none were ever issued, not even to Zouave regiments, which typically carried Enfields and Springfields (even early on in the war, as a testament to their elite status.)
Also, it is not historically incorrect to see multiple rifles in single regiments. As I noted before, 36% of Union regiments in the Army of the Potomac had two or more types of rifles. Perhaps less so with Confederate forces, but even still, it happened a lot. Much to the chagrin of the supply seargeants.

Enfield 1853

Several soldiers in the 20th and Armistead's Brigade are seen with Springfield Model 1842 muskets. Although the Union army did not mix weapons within units, several Union units at Gettysburg were still carrying Model 1842 muskets, most notably the 12th New Jersey and the Irish Brigade.
Buford's Union cavalry use Sharps 1859 carbines along with Springfields (used by extras in infantry uniforms, suggesting not enough cavalry reenactors were available). Other than that, the Sharps are never seen in the movie again.
Sevral Union officers use Colt 1860 Army revolvers. Joshua Chamberlain (Jeff Daniels) uses a Colt 1860 most notably at the Battle of Little Round Top. Joshua is seen reloading his Colt while waiting for the Confederates to charge again. Several other Union officers are seen using Colt 1860 Army's.
I don't have any clear screenshots available, but it seems to me that the muskets identified as Springfield 1842 variants could also be Austrian-made Lorenz rifle-muskets. The front of the barrel seems similar in appearance, and it would explain why most of these particular weapons are lacking ram rods; Lorenz rifles' ram rods were typically shipped separately. ---E2theSamps 05:20, 25 September 2011 (CDT)
