The Mauser C96 was a German semi-automatic pistol, originally manufactured between 1896 to 1936. It was one of the first semi-automatic pistols in history to see widespread use and was built in Spain and China as well. There are four major variants (with the usual array of rare or specialty/custom sub-variants.)

* The C96 "Broomhandle" was the fullsized pistol - (7.63x25mm Mauser)
* The ASTRA 900 was simply just a Spanish made copy.
* The ASTRA 903 was the same as above but with full automatic capability.
* The "Bolo" was the shorter barrel and smaller grip version (restrictions from the Versailles Treaty) and sold in large numbers to the Bolsheviks, thus the nickname "Bolo" - (7.63x25mm Mauser)
* The "Red 9" was a contract model for the German Army, chambered in 9mm Parabellum. To avoid loading mistakes, a large number 9 was engraved into the grips and painted red, hence the name.
* The M712 "Schnellfeuer" had a detachable 20 rd box magazine and fired fully automatic. (During the 20th Century, some semi auto only versions of the M712 Schnellfeuer were built and sold to the civilian market as the M711)
* The "Shansi .45" was a Chinese manufactured Mauser alongside being the ultimate and biggest as it is chambered in the .45 ACP fed by a 10 round internal magazine, again loaded with stripper clips.

They have "Nixon 1970" written on the grips, indicating they were a gift from Nixon for serving in the Vietnam war. At the beginning of the film, Comedian tries to bring up one of his 1911s to combat the attacking assailant in his home but fires off one stray shot to no avail and is disarmed. He even hits one rioter dead on with a smoke round to the back during the "American Dream" scene.
The Ultimax 100 was developed by Chartered Industries of Singapore (CIS) in the late 1970s as a indigenous Light Machine Gun for the Singapore Armed Forces. CIS was eventually merged into Singapore Technologies Kinetics (STK). There were four models of the Ultimax 100.

* Mark 1 was a pre-production variant with a quick detachable light barrel that proved unwieldy.
* Mark 2 was the First Production gun with a fixed barrel and a carry handle located at the center of the gun.
* Mark 3 updated version with quick detach heavy barrel, different carry handle. This version came in two types, the standard and Paratrooper length.
* Mark 4 is the updated version of the MK 3 that was developed for the US Marine Corp trials of 2007. It has rails on the top of the receiver. Amongst other details it can take STANAG magazines and has a skeleton folding stock

The Ultimax 100 Light Machine Gun has appeared in the following:

Film
* Used by Danny Devito in Austin Powers in Goldmember - (Mark 3 Paratrooper model with Beta-C Magazine)
* Used by survivors in Quinn Abercromby's camp in Reign of Fire (Mark 2 SAW Model with 30-round STANAG magazine)

The Daewoo USAS-12 is based on Maxwell Atchisson's 1972 designed of the AA-12 assault shotgun
(Pictures of the Atchisson AA-12: http://www.world.guns.ru/shotgun/sh29-e.htm) In 1989, Gilbert Equipment Co.(USA) wanted to produce an Atchisson of its own. Since Gilbert had no manufacturing capabilities, it looked elsewhere for possible manufacturers. The only maker that agreed to produce the weapon was a South Korean company called Daewoo Precision Industries, part of the Daewoo conglomerate. They adapted the design to their manufacturing techniques, and mass production commenced in the early 1990s and continues to this day.

The USAS-12 in semi automatic form was available through regular chains of commerce until 1993, when then President Bill Clinton, at the behest of a gun control group (Handgun Control, Inc.), directed then Secretary of the Treasury Lloyd Bentsen to declare three specific self loading shotguns to be destructive devices under an obscure portion of the Federal Code, which allowed the Head of the Treasury Dept. to declare any weapon over .50 Caliber to be declared a destructive device by decree. The three banned shotguns were (a) the SWD/Cobray Streetsweeper, the (b) the Armsel Striker-12 shotgun and the (c) Semi automatic USAS-12. The gun control group also requested that the pump action Mossberg 500 also be banned (due to the "frightening design" of the Mossberg 500 bullpup) but Bentsen refused. It is ironic that the full auto USAS-12 shotguns were still available to Title II approved owners and dealers with no additional paperwork required, but the Semi automatic version required a 'Destructive Device' permit from the ATF to possess and transfer. Once a shotgun like the USAS-12 was 'legally a Destructive Device' the ATF restricted import of complete guns and replacement parts based on regulations from the Gun Control Act of 1968.
