At the beginning Liam does a suicide bid by going outside and placing the barrel of his rifle into his mouth. Wouldn't it freeze to his tongue like the flagpole scene in A Christmas Story?Foofbun 06:24, 22 February 2012 (CST)

:I believe it would depend on how cold the barrel was; you said that he goes outside to do this, so it's possible that the barrel was still warm enough that his saliva wouldn't freeze on contact. In any case, I think that would be the last thing someone contemplating suicide would be worrying about. Orca1 9904 11:42, 22 February 2012 (CST)

The rifle used by Prideax is not a Karaibina 98k sporter. The rifle resembles a brno or CZ .22. This can be seen by the curved stock where it meets the barrel, the suppressor used would not be as effective if it was used on a 7.92x57mm and finnaly the bullet wound was far to small for the 7.92x57mm, it more resembles the wound that would be inflicted by a .22 or another small calibre.
It's a movie, so a round's suppressed effectivnes is irrelevant, as is the wound appearance.--Mandolin 20:42, 27 January 2012 (CST)
I'd say it's a l42a1 or enforcer so it's chambered in 7.62 and fitted with a heavier barrel. both would make sense for everyones description and that its being used as an SWS.

Definitely not a Jungle Carbine, nor an L42A1 or Enforcer. The L42A1 and Enforcer were built on No 4 actions, and the Jungle Carbine on a modified version of that action, which can be distinguished readily by its flat sides and peep sight built into a bracket on the rear bridge. The conversions to 7.62 have a different-shaped magazine (less angled at the bottom). This one is built on a No 1 Mk III* action (aka SMLE III*) with the forend and handguard cut back to sporter form as was quite popular in former Commonwealth countries post WWII when these rifles were dumped onto the civilian market. The rear sight base and ramp remain in place but the leaf and elevator have been removed. The scope mount is an aftermarket (non-military) type as is the scope - which looks like a Tasco. IOW it is nothing more than a sporterised SMLE, probably in .303 (though cartridges based on the .303 necked down, eg .303/25, .303/270, were also popular in places like Australia). Denys Finch Hatton was born in England on April 24th 1887, the son of Henry Stormont Finch Hatton, Earl of Winchelsea and Anne Finch Hatton (nee Coddrington), a daughter of a former Admiral of the British Fleet. Educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford, Denys was a natural sportsman and scholar of the arts. In 1911 the 24 year old Denys bought land in British East Africa as an investment which would give him the freedom to spend his time hunting. He would spend every Autumn and Winter in Africa doing just that.

In 1925 he became a professional big game hunter and took numerous wealthy and distinguished clients on safari - including H.R.H. the Duke of Windsor (the then Prince of Wales). His taste for adventure led him to learn to fly, and it was on May 14th 1931 that he died in a fatal plane crash in his Gypsy Moth near what is now the Tsave National Park, Kenya. He is buried in the Ngong Hills and an obelisk marks his grave to this day.

The story of Denys Finch Hatton and his love affair with Karen Blixen (his only known romance) is immortalised by Robert Redford and Meryl Streep in the Academy Award winning film "Out of Africa" (1985).
It's a either a sporter M1917 Enfield or the British predecessor the Pattern 1914 in .303.Pay attention to the rear sight and the unique bolt handle design. Considering that the movie was filmed in Africa I would lean towards the P14, but there were not many versions of the .303 made and the 30-06 American version exceeded a million. Thousands of the 30-06 version were given to England in the early days of World War II under the Lend Lease Act.

Considering that the movie was filmed in Africa I would lean towards the P14, but there were not many versions of the .303 made and the 30-06 American version exceeded a million. Thousands of the 30-06 version were given to England in the early days of World War II under the Lend Lease Act.
I see you changed Ludlow's 1911 from a S&W to a RRA. It is neither. The cocking serrations on Ludlow's pistol are 90 degrees, while the serrations on all RRA pistols are angled at 11 degrees. The frontstrap on Ludlow's pistol is a standard cut, while the RRA cuts their's very high and at a 90 degree angle. Ludlow's 1911 has a pinned front sight; RRA uses a dovetail, and RRA uses a standard length serrated slidestop; not a flat extended stop. Also note the magazine funnel, ambidextrous safety, stainless (not blued) barrel - none of which are on the RRA.

I looked for the make of this pistol extensively, and came to the conclusion that it is a franken pistol built from a standard blued Colt; probably a series 70. There are lots of competition add ons in stainless steel, and in black; none of which would come standard on a blued gun that lacks a high cut frontstrap.

: Yeah, I knew it was likely wrong, I'd been looking through my Standard Catalog of firearms and none of the RRA pistols fit the bill. I think it is likely just a custom Series 70 or Series 80. Thanks for the info.

Hello everyone. New account but I've been looking at these pages every time I watch a new movie. Looking at this page, I noticed that you have Ludlow's 1911 is listed in the 1911 page as a sw1911. I noticed on the big picture that says similar to pistol in film that it says series 80 and Cylinder & Slide on the right side. I've ordered a couple of parts from Cylinder & Slide and I know they mostly use Springfield 1911s. Makes me wonder whether this is a C&S custom pistol, and whether it is a series 80 colt, or a sw1911. -Jan

:It's definitely not a SW1911. The cocking serrations on the S&W are slanted, whereas the serrations on this gun are vertical. -Gunman69 21:06, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

In the Benelli M3 section theres a pic of Demille pointing what is labeled as a Benelli M3. I think the shape of the pump and groove in the yop of the reciever is more indicative of a remington 870. Also the lack of a charging handle for semi-auto action rules out the M3.
::Not Necessarily, MPM has two pictures that show the differences between a 590 and a 500, While I cannot see this picture clearly, It definitely looks more like a 590.
:By standard, I mean only the six shot tube. Since the barrel is clearly extending past the mag tube by a lot, I'm assuming it is just a 500. - Gunmaster45
There's no mention of which side the bullet hits, also the scapula (This is just how I read it, not sure if it's what he meant though) is essentially the shoulder. == A few things ==

1. As previously said, the lack of a charging handle on the receiver of Demille's shotgun leads me to believe that it isn't a Benelli semi-auto, the sights make me say Remington 870.
2. Again as said previously scapula is the proper name for shoulder blade, so the dialogue in the movie is correct.

i believe if you look closely when he picks it up off of the floor at the commanders house you will see that it very very very closely resembles a Springfield 1911 Operator

:The Operator series comes with rail frames. His gun does not have a rail. -MT2008 15:25, 6 November 2010 (UTC)

Could be a TRP. There are Springfield TRP 1911s without rails.
:The TRP has front slide serrations which Ludlow's does not. If it was a Springfield it would the GI model that has been customized, since the Mil-Spec has slanted serrations. Does anybody have it on blu-ray? I think in this shot below you might be able to tell what it is. If the gun has good roll marks.
The 1911 most resembles a colt special combat government. If you look close enough you can tell that all of the features of the gun are the same as the special combat government. Everything from the aluminum 3 hole trigger, beaver-tail grip safety, adjustable sights, only rear cocking grooves, and the custom magwell on the bottom show that its the most reasonable guess.
Demilles Off Duty Weapon
I just caught this rewatching the film. When Captain Wander is telling Demille and Clady (Klady?) to go back and write up a report, briefly, you can see a gun holstered. It appears to be a Full Frame Glock, maybe a 17, but its only seen for a second, and i dont think its seen again after. Im willing to think, with the clothes hes wearing and the time of day, its his off duty sidearm, like Ludlows Series 80.

The best shot i can see of it, hes got a Glock 17, his badge, and a magazine holster, partially hidden by his shirt.

The gun can be seen from roughly 11:20 to 11:50

Beautiful old British guns in this too. One thing, the Snider-Enfield is too short to be a short rifle, it looks like it's actual an Artillery carbine. Very rare! Didn't add it to the page when I built it because I never thought it would be in a movie.

Thanks Nyles. I figured you would appreciate the page. In the near future I'm still planning on screencapping Rough Riders. --Jcordell 21:10, 23 September 2009 (UTC)

I would also like to find out more about the T-Rex rifle, I've searched online for examples/information about Elephant Guns but can only find stuff on ammunition, no actual models/examples of guns!!!

Note the scope used on the T-Rex rifle. Leupold optics. The gold ring around the objective lens housing is the giveaway. Leupold scopes are very tough and have a good return to zero after dismounting. Wraith
Grenades are not firearms, so technically they shouldn't be included either.... If your read the guidelines, as long as it is military equipment it can be included in a trivia section at the end of the page. --AdAstra2009 20:56, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
::guys this sort of confusion is entirely our fault (i.e. the mods) for not putting up a guideline. I speak for all (well actually I don't) but I sincerely apologies to our members who have had to put up with mystical and sometimes nonsensical rules that haven't been posted yet. I am trying, and I was actually surprised, new members were actually READING the rules and applying them. I kinda feel guilty in getting pissed off at new guys for screwing up when it was us VETERAN members who screwed up in not formally listing rules and guidelines. I am completely humbled now and (when I get time) will strive to continue with the rules listing (all gleaned from months (has it been years yet?) of consensus from Mods and Veteran users about what should be on the rules listing. :) MoviePropMaster2008 22:27, 31 October 2009 (UTC)
:::My point about this particular weapon is in its name, BALLISTIC knife. Its not a ordinary knife as it fires out of a sheaf/handgrip so should be included as it is as relevant as a crossbow and would complete an excellent page.--The Mercenary 16:34, 1 November 2009 (UTC)
There is a site called Nitro Express Forums. It's dedicated to fine rifles and shotguns. It's main focus is Dangerous Game rifles. Many of the posters are evidently very wealthy and own many double rifles as well as large caliber bolt action rifles and fine shotguns. They also seem to have done their share of big game hunting in Australia and Africa. I found a post about this movie and they were laughing at the fact that the double pictured isn't an H&H Paradox but it instead an 8 gauge double shotgun. One of the members informed the posters that we here on imfdb are very willing to correct any mistakes, welcome knowledgable contributers and that the best course of action is to register and then go ahead and correct any mistakes. I was feeling a little put upon until I found that members posting. So perhaps some of those experts in doubles will be coming along and contributing. :I don't think it is a Paradox because the trigger guard shape doesn't really match it, and it does look like quite a massive gun so it could very well be an 8 gauge. btw, I think Lawrence (Del Toro) was using a Spencer 1860 when the werewolf first attacks the gypsie camp and then jumps him, but it was really hard to tell (I saw it in theaters) so if I don't pick it up before someone screencaps I'll have to quell my curiosity on that one. - Gunmaster45
