In 1997, before the visit of the pope to Rio de Janeiro, Captain Nascimento from BOPE (Special Police Operation Battalion) is assigned to eliminate the risks of the drug dealers in a dangerous slum nearby where the pope intends to be lodged. Captain Nascimento is trying to find a man to replace him because his wife is pregnant and he intends to quit the command and become a trainer of the new recruits. Meanwhile, the two idealistic friends Neto and Matias join the Military Police force expecting to become honest policemen and fight the criminals…(Plot summary from Imdb.com)
This is an excellent picture. It is somewhat difficult to obtain good scans because most action takes place at night and the action is fast. Nevertheless, we can see some interesting firearms:

The [[INA_Model_953#INA_Model_953|INA Model 953]], the Brazilian version of the Danish [[Madsen M50]] SMG. Recognized by its stamped metal body which, literally, is held together by the barrel nut (which was known to come loose on its own, spilling the internal mechanisms on the ground). Brazil manufactured it in .45 ACP instead of the standard 9mm.

This is a rifle derived from the FAL, made in Brazil by Industria de Material Bélico do Brasil, and widely used by the Brazilian police and military. It is carried by the actor in the background in these scenes, although it is never seen closely.

==Unidentified rifles ==
In the opening scenes, Caio Junqueira opens fire with an unidentified scoped rifle. It might be an Imbel AGLC, but I can’t identify it with certainty. It's maybe IMBEL M/968 (old czech or belgian Mauser enhanced with new 0.308 barrel in the 60's).
The new BOPE recruits can be seen training with rifles that are probably made in Brazil, but I can’t identify them (help requested).

The cruel and cowardly commander of the soldiers, Colonel Mekum ([[Jason Isaacs]]) can be seen carrying a nickel-plated [[Colt Single Action Army]] with pearl grips as his sidearm, using it to shoot first one of the older soldiers injured in the fight with Caine 607 ([[Jason Scott Lee]]), one of the newer soldiers, and then Captain Church ([[Gary Busey]]) when he refuses to follow orders.

== AKU-94 Bullpup ==

The standard-issue assault rifles of the soldiers throughout the film, including Sergeant Todd ([[Kurt Russell]]) and later the super-soldiers, are modified [[AK-47#AKU-94|AKU-94]] rifles made to look futuristic. The weapons have been given extended barrels and shrouds that are similar to [[Franchi SPAS-12]] shotgun heatshields (these are however, custom fabricated). Additionally, the rifles have C-More red-dot sights, dual retractable bayonets, and Surefire Universal weaponlights. In some scenes, the rifles feed from standard 30-round AK "banana"-style magazines (this is most obvious during a flashback when Sgt. Todd is seen reloading and his magazine is shown hitting the ground), while in other scenes, they are fitted with 100-round drum magazines.

It's not seen clearly, but looking closely, it is possible to see that that the rifle lacks the flipper magazine release of the original H&K G3, which means that it is almost certainly a civilian [[HK91]] standing in for the mil-spec G3.

== Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistol "Carbine" ==

While loading up to engage the soldiers after repelling the raid on the Arcadia 234 settlement, Sgt. Todd can be briefly seen with a pair of Patriot Pistols (which were common AR15 pistol variants around the same time as Olympic Arms' entry into the AR15 Pistol arena with their OA-93). These Patriot Pistols (which have a short AR barrel and flat top upper receiver), actually have the full length telescoping stock for the XM177/CAR15 carbines attached. It looks to be the same Patriot Upper mated to a full auto SP1 lower that was used in the movie ''[[Congo]]''. These firearms are outfitted with under-mounted flashlights, vintage red laser sights (from the 1980s), and Beta-C magazines.

== Steyr SPP ==

While engaging the soldiers, Sgt. Todd takes a [[Steyr SPP]] converted to fire full-auto from one of the soldiers before dropping a grenade into one of the "Crawler" vehicles to kill the crew. The soldier inside the Crawler who gets killed is also brandishing an SPP. It would appear that the SPP is actually supposed to be the standard-issue sidearm for the Adam project soldiers; this is evidenced by the fact that during the flashback to the "Moscow Incident", all of the soldiers are carrying machine pistols on thigh holsters which appear to be SPPs.

==Custom Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistols ==

During the casino heist, Gus ([[David Arquette]]) and Franklin ([[Bokeem Woodbine]]) use strange-looking compact assault rifles. One of these weapons is also used near the end of the movie, when Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) uses one for the first part of the warehouse shoot out. These weapons are custom-built [[Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistol]] "carbines". They were clearly built by fitting Patriot Pistol upper receiver/barrel assembles to the lower receiver/telescoping stocks of some other [[M16]] carbine variants, mostly likely the XM177 or Model 654. The armorers then added M4-style carry handles and 100-round Beta-C magazines. Guns similar to these have also been seen in ''[[Congo]]'' and ''[[Soldier]]'' (coincidentally, the latter is another movie that starred [[Kurt Russell]]).

==(Fake) Colt XM177==
Hanson ([[Christian Slater]]) and Michael ([[Kurt Russell]]) use [[M16]] carbine variants that are mocked up to resemble [[M16 rifle series#Colt XM177/CAR-15/Commando Series|Colt XM177]] during the the casino heist. Michael never fires his weapon at any of the security guards, instead shooting the glass above a group of pursuing guards. Michael then passes his gun to Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) as the group makes their escape to the helicopter.

All of these rifles are fake XM177 rifles which seem to have been built from other AR variants. The real XM177 has a slab-side receiver, which only Michael's gun has (at least when he's in the elevator). The rifles used by the other robbers have both [[M16A2]]-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A2]]-style rear sight) and Model 715-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A1]]-style rear sight). This means that they're probably other AR carbine variants with chopped barrels and fake XM177 flash hiders fitted. Most of the Hollywood "XM177s" seen in movies are just like these (see also ''[[The Rock]]'', for instance).

==Custom Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistols ==

During the casino heist, Gus ([[David Arquette]]) and Franklin ([[Bokeem Woodbine]]) use strange-looking compact assault rifles. One of these weapons is also used near the end of the movie, when Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) uses one for the first part of the warehouse shoot out. These weapons are custom-built [[Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistol]] "carbines". They were clearly built by fitting Patriot Pistol upper receiver/barrel assembles to the lower receiver/telescoping stocks of some other [[M16]] carbine variants, mostly likely the XM177 or Model 654. The armorers then added M4-style carry handles and 100-round Beta-C magazines. Guns similar to these have also been seen in ''[[Congo]]'' and ''[[Soldier]]'' (coincidentally, the latter is another movie that starred [[Kurt Russell]]).

==(Fake) Colt XM177==
Hanson ([[Christian Slater]]) and Michael ([[Kurt Russell]]) use [[M16]] carbine variants that are mocked up to resemble [[M16 rifle series#Colt XM177/CAR-15/Commando Series|Colt XM177]] during the the casino heist. Michael never fires his weapon at any of the security guards, instead shooting the glass above a group of pursuing guards. Michael then passes his gun to Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) as the group makes their escape to the helicopter.

All of these rifles are fake XM177 rifles which seem to have been built from other AR variants. The real XM177 has a slab-side receiver, which only Michael's gun has (at least when he's in the elevator). The rifles used by the other robbers have both [[M16A2]]-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A2]]-style rear sight) and Model 715-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A1]]-style rear sight). This means that they're probably other AR carbine variants with chopped barrels and fake XM177 flash hiders fitted. Most of the Hollywood "XM177s" seen in movies are just like these (see also ''[[The Rock]]'', for instance).

Just before the final shoot out in the warehouse, Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) is given a short barreled [[Mossberg 500-series shotgun|Mossberg 500]] fitted with rear and forward pistol grips, a heat shield and a shell holder. He uses the weapon to shoot Michael ([[Kurt Russell]]) after SWAT shows up, and briefly uses it to shoot at the SWAT team members. This is the same shotgun used in [[Reindeer Games]], [[Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball]] and other films and television series filmed in Vancouver.

During the casino heist, Gus ([[David Arquette]]) and Franklin ([[Bokeem Woodbine]]) use strange-looking compact assault rifles. One of these weapons is also used near the end of the movie, when Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) uses one for the first part of the warehouse shoot out. These weapons are custom-built [[Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistol]] "carbines". They were clearly built by fitting Patriot Pistol upper receiver/barrel assembles to the lower receiver/telescoping stocks of some other [[M16]] carbine variants, mostly likely the XM177 or Model 654. The armorers then added M4-style carry handles and 100-round Beta-C magazines. Guns similar to these have also been seen in ''[[Congo]]'' and ''[[Soldier]]'' (coincidentally, the latter is another movie that starred [[Kurt Russell]]).

==(Fake) Colt XM177==
Hanson ([[Christian Slater]]) and Michael ([[Kurt Russell]]) use [[M16]] carbine variants that are mocked up to resemble [[M16 rifle series#Colt XM177/CAR-15/Commando Series|Colt XM177]] during the the casino heist. Michael never fires his weapon at any of the security guards, instead shooting the glass above a group of pursuing guards. Michael then passes his gun to Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) as the group makes their escape to the helicopter.

All of these rifles are fake XM177 rifles which seem to have been built from other AR variants. The real XM177 has a slab-side receiver, which only Michael's gun has (at least when he's in the elevator). The rifles used by the other robbers have both [[M16A2]]-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A2]]-style rear sight) and Model 715-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A1]]-style rear sight). This means that they're probably other AR carbine variants with chopped barrels and fake XM177 flash hiders fitted. Most of the Hollywood "XM177s" seen in movies are just like these (see also ''[[The Rock]]'', for instance).

Just before the final shoot out in the warehouse, Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) is given a short barreled [[Mossberg 500-series shotgun|Mossberg 500]] fitted with rear and forward pistol grips, a heat shield and a shell holder. He uses the weapon to shoot Michael ([[Kurt Russell]]) after SWAT shows up, and briefly uses it to shoot at the SWAT team members. This is the same shotgun used in [[Reindeer Games]], [[Smokin' Aces 2: Assassins' Ball]] and other films and television series filmed in Vancouver.

==Custom Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistols ==

During the casino heist, Gus ([[David Arquette]]) and Franklin ([[Bokeem Woodbine]]) use strange-looking compact assault rifles. One of these weapons is also used near the end of the movie, when Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) uses one for the first part of the warehouse shoot out. These weapons are custom-built [[Rocky Mountain Arms Patriot Pistol]] "carbines". They were clearly built by fitting Patriot Pistol upper receiver/barrel assembles to the lower receiver/telescoping stocks of some other [[M16]] carbine variants, mostly likely the XM177 or Model 654. The armorers then added M4-style carry handles and 100-round Beta-C magazines. Guns similar to these have also been seen in ''[[Congo]]'' and ''[[Soldier]]'' (coincidentally, the latter is another movie that starred [[Kurt Russell]]).

==(Fake) Colt XM177==
Hanson ([[Christian Slater]]) and Michael ([[Kurt Russell]]) use [[M16]] carbine variants that are mocked up to resemble [[M16 rifle series#Colt XM177/CAR-15/Commando Series|Colt XM177]] during the the casino heist. Michael never fires his weapon at any of the security guards, instead shooting the glass above a group of pursuing guards. Michael then passes his gun to Murphy ([[Kevin Costner]]) as the group makes their escape to the helicopter.

All of these rifles are fake XM177 rifles which seem to have been built from other AR variants. The real XM177 has a slab-side receiver, which only Michael's gun has (at least when he's in the elevator). The rifles used by the other robbers have both [[M16A2]]-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A2]]-style rear sight) and Model 715-style receivers (forward assist, brass deflector, and [[M16A1]]-style rear sight). This means that they're probably other AR carbine variants with chopped barrels and fake XM177 flash hiders fitted. Most of the Hollywood "XM177s" seen in movies are just like these (see also ''[[The Rock]]'', for instance).
