The buttstocks are not quite M4 stocks, but something weird. They have (very 21st century) sling sockets, but also long toes sticking down and curving back. Not visible easily but it's there.
Trigger guards are removed, which makes sense for gloved hand use.
They also are not painted white, but are either painted metallic, or plated. I'd assume they were supposed to be read as plated (NP3 was developed for the space program, for example) but are probably just painted for cost :)
Some is discussed in this thread: https://www.therpf.com/forums/threads/m-16s-on-the-moon-help-id-this-for-all-mankind-weapon-pics.333339/ where someone involved in the production contributes some details.

Apocalypse Now Trivia
1. Harvey Keitel was originally cast by Francis Ford Coppola to portray Capt. Willard, but was replaced by Martin Sheen.

2. In the opening scene where a drunken Willard smashes a mirror in his hotel room, Martin Sheen had improvised the smashing and severly split open his thumb due to the fact that the glass was real. Despite Coppola wanted to cut, Sheen told the director that he wanted to keep filming.

3. The water buffalo that was slaughtered in the film was authentic as it was part of a tribal ritual that was witnessed by Coppola prior to filming the sequence.

4. Sam Bottoms admitted in Hearts of Darkness that he was on several drugs while filming.

5. Martin Sheen suffered a heart attack during filming and was unable to film for several weeks. Martin's brother, Joe Estevez, was hired to film pickup shots as principal photography continued until Sheen could return.

6. The original budget for the film was $16 million, but the final cost turned out to be about $32 Million.

7. In the documentary Hearts of Darkness, Francis Ford Coppola was heard on tape saying he was seriously thinking of shooting himself.

8. Francis Ford Coppola lost more than 100 pounds during filming.

9. Marlon Brando was paid $1 million in advance for his role in the film. Brando eventually turned up on set extremely late, severely overweight (+100kg), and apparently had not read the script or the book "Heart of Darkness". After days of arguments over single lines of dialogue, an ad-lib style script was agreed upon, and this was shot according to Brando's stipulations that he appears in shadows.

10. The original version of the film was to be directed by George Lucas and was actually considered being shot in Vietnam during the war.
The caption for Colby (Scott Glenn) should be changed. It mentions him twice as Lt. but he was a Captain, as demonstrated by the captain's bars on his beret, and the narrative of Williard on the boat when he gets mail at the bridge.
::::Thanks, I really happy with the way it turned out. Wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I think since the scenery changes on the M16 pics it makes it not so cumbersome. The only thing that bugs me is the M16 list, there are too many of the same actor. I got some shots of Lance (Sam Bottoms) and Chief (Albert Hall) with M16's but the shots weren't good enough for the page. So I'm going to go back and see if I can get some better ones. == Minigun mock-up? ==

Despite what is written in the description about how the M134s are from the Philippine Air Force, does anyone else think they look a hell of a lot like mock-ups? Firstly, the main "receiver" is too wide in relation to the barrels, and all the additional parts that attach like the delinker and motor are perfectly smooth cylinders, rather than the more irregular shapes covered in bolts, rivets and plates that they would be in real life. Secondly the barrel clamps are wrong, having that nut at the front, and the rear clamp being the same thickness as all the others rather than thicker. Thirdly the profiles of the barrels themselves is weird, with the back half being much thicker than the front abruptly changing at the rear of the barrel clamp. Lastly, the mount looks particularly cobbled together and appears that it wouldn't articulate enough to be of any use on a real weapon. --commando552 (talk) 06:54, 12 June 2013 (EDT)
In the Redux version, a possible BAR is present in the French plantation scene. Just before Hubert de Marais introduces himself, a soldier behind him slung a possible M1918 BAR(or its variant) on his shoulder. However, due to fog it is hard to determine which variant. Hearts of Darkness: A Filmmaker's Apocalypse is the 1991 documentary about the production of Apocalypse Now. The documentary shows the scope of how many guns were used.

::: I added two images. There is never any good shots of him with it though.- Predator20
Minigun mock-up?
I was looking through a Hollywood memorabilia auction catalog which, among other things, included what was supposed to be a replica M-16 from this movie. I immediately recognized it as a rubber M-16A2 rubber prop which, clearly, was not in the movie. I contacted to auction company to inform them of the error and was shortly thereafter replied to by one of the site managers. Apparently he had to check on it and the story was the site's photographer took a picture of the wrong M-16 prop but it was too late to replace the pic in the catalog. Finally...my firearms trivia knowledge has some real world application. --Charon68 (talk) 23:55, 12 April 2021 (EDT)

To my civilian eyes it looks like a FAL of some kind. Anyone able to be more specific?

--Stix

It is definitely a FAL (metric pattern not inch pattern, can tell by the bolt handle in the second shot and the front sight wings) but without seeing the stock type or barrel length can't nail it down 100%. It has the regular three vent plastic handguard, so would just go for a regular FN FAL 50.00. --commando552 (talk) 04:55, 3 October 2012 (EDT)

:Strange that a Ranger should be toting a FAL huh? I wonder why they (director/armourers) decided to put that gun in the dude's hands...? I wondered if perhaps the Ranger team had gotten into some sort of contact earlier and the gun had been taken, or stolen, as a souvenir. Did the armed forces or anyone else in Libya ever use FALs? On that note, how common is "souvenir hunting" among American or other NATO servicemen? Is it actually allowed? --Stix #ps - thanx c552 for cleaning up my messy first edit :D
::I remember seeing a couple of articles around the time Qadaffi fell showing the various rebel groups carrying everything from FN2000s, to FN FALs and, somehow, MP-44s. Thanks to its' oil wealth Libya had access to some of the best Europe had to offer to the point it, in many cases, had more weapons than troops most of which wound up in rebel hands when they overran Libyan armouries. --Charon68 (talk) 15:13, 16 September 2020 (EDT)
Yes, the two pages should be consolidated. The "info" needs to be changed as well. It says the M12s is a "folding stock variant of the M12". Well, both the M12 and the M12s have folding stocks, there really is no difference in that regard. There was a wooden stock option for the M12, but as far as I know, it wasn't that common.
Superman II is the 1980 sequel to 1978's Superman: The Movie. The sequel finds the Man of Steel having to battle three Kryptonian criminal who have escaped a space prison and are intent on conquering Earth. Both Superman: The Movie and its sequel were filmed simultaneously, but production conflicts led to director Richard Donner departing before completing the second film. Superman II was subsequently finished and released with new scenes under the direction of Richard Lester. In 2006, Richard Donner and editor Michael Thau collaborated to restore as much of Donner's original vision as possible with newly discovered footage. This version of the film was released on video under the title: "Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut". Many alternate sequences were restored (and a few excised) as well as the appearance of Superman's father Jor-El (Marlon Brando).

Shotguns
Coach Shotgun
Dwayne (Peter Whitman), the young deputy who confronts the supervillains, aims a Coach-style shotgun at General Zod (Terence Stamp). After he superheats the barrels with his heat vision, Zod takes the shotgun away and fires a blast into his chest to no ill effect. Zod then comments, "A weapon of some sort."
In the Theatrical Cut, Joey aims his 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun at Zod and his friends until Zod moves him around.
Generally speaking the majority of Colt rifles have a LE/civillian version that is semi-only, we just list them as the military variant (e.g. Model 933, M4A1, M16A4) as there is no way to tell the difference most of the time, they more often than not are intended to portray the military variant, and in a lot of cases the guns will actually be a civilian variant fitted with a full auto lower from a different gun making them indistinguishable from a real full0auto variant. --commando552 (talk) 10:30, 28 January 2017 (EST)

Politics & IMFDB
May I ask why we are giving a page to one of the most anti gun shows in history?

:Because this is not a political site. The political stance of a movie on gun use do not concern us; indeed, given how anti-gun Hollywood tends to be, this site would probably not exist at all if politics factored in. -MT2008 13:53, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

Maybe a disclaimer that we dissaprove of the shows message would be good like was done on the page Redacted.

the show was idioticly anti gun, but
Was there an ongoing overt political message? I didn't watch the show on a regular basis, I thought it was really stupid, but I did watch the series finale and the entire thing with idiot boy MacGyver taking out a bad guy, kicking away the gun but not taking it or throwing it into a lake or something and then having the guy get up and shoot MacGyver's friends was inexcusable in its stupidity. If there was ALWAYS an on going 'message' about how guns were evil, then we 'could' put up a disclaimer, but I don't think it was that obvious to the casual viewer. As per myself, I always thought of it as trying to force the show to come up with weird and nonstandard solutions to problems. Richard Dean Anderson DID use tons of guns later in Stargate SG1 and he used them correctly! (i.e. when he shot bad guys, he shoots to kill). MoviePropMaster2008 16:52, 7 August 2010 (UTC)

If I remember correctly he handled them well too. I remember he had good trigger discipline in at least one episode because I remember his finger being rested on the trigger guard on an MP5 in at least one scene on a Goa'uld mothership. --cool-breeze 19:31, 11 July 2011 (CDT)

Richard Dean Anderson
The reason for all the anti-gun BS is Richard Dean Anderson. This jackass is on the board of directors of "Handgun Control, Inc" and insisted after the pilot that his character never use a gun.

Hi Mr Anon first, sign your posts! Second, get your facts straight. The series was originally developed with the character not using guns because they wanted to create a character who would use his mind to get out of situations instead of just shooting someone. They wanted something different than the tons of other spy shows that were out there and MacGyver delivered. The series wasn't anti gun, anything that went on behind the scenes doesn't matter when it comes to the actual show. --cool-breeze 05:30, 27 June 2011 (CDT)

Politics and the movie/television Industry
I agree with MT2008. Everyone knows that Hollywood (and probably many of the other movie folks in other countries) tend to be rather knee jerk in their left leaning politics. Especially when it comes to firearms. But IMFDB is about firearms in movies, television etc. If we used political beliefs as the criteria most of the actor pages that I've created over the past two years would be gone. The fact of the matter is that MacGyver was on television for many years and firearms were used. Yes in the real world MacGyver would be dead. But then so would James Bond and all of the heroic characters that Bruce Willis has played over the years.

:For the record, Bruce Willis is a proud gun owner and gun rights supporder

The discussion page is for just that. We need to keep the actual page free of political content. IMFDB is a reference site. Not an extension of the NRA or GOA. And I am a card carrying member of the NRA incidentally. --Jcordell 03:12, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
::We did the disclaimer on the Redacted page because we have tons of veterans (who deserve our respect) who were truly offended by that movie. It was a rare instance, and in only rare and outrageous instances will we do that. MacGyver is idiotic, but seriously, the politics were only really present behind the scenes, not on the screen. MoviePropMaster2008 03:52, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Well, I watched the show growing up, the only reason MacGyver doesn't use a gun was due to his tramatic childhood of accidently shooting one of his best friends. Many of MacGyver's close friends and allies (many are government agents or police officers) used guns and MacGyver never make any objection. Only when civilians without training picked up guns dropped by the bad guys when MacGyver stopped them.--Wildcards 19:06, 11 July 2011 (CDT)
Hyena Road is a 2015 war drama written by, directed and starring Paul Gross (Passchendaele). Gross stars as Pete Mitchell, a Canadian military intelligence officer who recruits a team of snipers led by Ryan Sanders (Rossif Sutherland) in an effort to track down a mysterious Afghan fighter known as the Ghost.
