The Smith and Wesson Model 36 (often called simply ".38 snubnose") was introduced in 1950 as the "Chief's Special" (sometimes called the "Police Chiefs Special"). When Smith & Wesson adopted a model number only system seven years later, the revolvers' name was changed to Model 36. It is famous as being the first J-frame revolver in the S&W series (the earlier models were called "I-frames"). It is commonly used as a "belly gun", being stuffed in the pants waist, or as an officer's "Spare Rod", strapped to the ankle in a holster. It holds five rounds of .38 special.

The Smith & Wesson Model 38/49 "Bodyguard" is a Model 36 that has a "Camel Hump" hammer shroud used to prevent clothing snag, as the hammer is concealed in the shroud. The Smith & Wesson Bodyguard was unusual in that the alloy framed "Airweight" version was released first, as the Smith & Wesson Airweight Bodyguard, in 1955. In 1957 Smith & Wesson introduced a new model numbering system, with the Airweight Bodyguard becoming the Model 38. The steel-framed Bodyguard, the Model 49, was not introduced until 1959, unusual in that most Airweights were ''preceded'' by their steel counterparts. While the K would commonly stand for ''kurz'', German for "Short", PPK means ''Polizei Pistole Kriminal'', the Criminal Police Pistol, noted by its compact criminal size. The Walther PPK is a shortened version of the Walther PP. Since it was the most common compact pistol of WW2 (for the German forces) it is the most famous as well as being the weapon of choice for fictional British Intelligence (MI-6) officer 007 James Bond.

Note, the K does indeed stand for ''Kriminal'', however, this term needs some fleshing out. It is referred to as ''Kriminal'' not because of any preferred usage of smaller guns by Criminals, but because this is the gun issued to the ''Criminal division'' (''Kriminalpolizei''), i.e. the people who investigate crimes, which would be termed 'Detectives Division' in most U.S. police forces. Just like most patrolmen in the USA carried a 4 inch revolver at the time, and the Detectives often carried a snub nose revolver (Colt specifically calling theirs ''the Detective Special'') so to did the investigative branch of the German Police desire to carry a smaller version of the full sized patrolman's duty weapon.

==Walther PPK/S==

The PPK was too small for importation into America, so to fix the problem, Walther slapped a PPK slide on a PP frame and built the PPK/S. The most notable way to tell a PPK from a PPK/S is its finish (a PPK/S is far more common as a stainless gun than a PPK) and longer frame spur. Also, Walther did manage to sell more pistols that would otherwise be banned under the harsh rules of GCA-68 by building them domestically (Walther U.S.A.).

While the K would commonly stand for ''kurz'', German for "Short", PPK means ''Polizei Pistole Kriminal'', the Criminal Police Pistol, noted by its compact criminal size. The Walther PPK is a shortened version of the Walther PP. Since it was the most common compact pistol of WW2 (for the German forces) it is the most famous as well as being the weapon of choice for fictional British Intelligence (MI-6) officer 007 James Bond.

Note, the K does indeed stand for ''Kriminal'', however, this term needs some fleshing out. It is referred to as ''Kriminal'' not because of any preferred usage of smaller guns by Criminals, but because this is the gun issued to the ''Criminal division'' (''Kriminalpolizei''), i.e. the people who investigate crimes, which would be termed 'Detectives Division' in most U.S. police forces. Just like most patrolmen in the USA carried a 4 inch revolver at the time, and the Detectives often carried a snub nose revolver (Colt specifically calling theirs ''the Detective Special'') so to did the investigative branch of the German Police desire to carry a smaller version of the full sized patrolman's duty weapon.

==Walther PPK/S==

The PPK was too small for importation into America, so to fix the problem, Walther slapped a PPK slide on a PP frame and built the PPK/S. The most notable way to tell a PPK from a PPK/S is its finish (a PPK/S is far more common as a stainless gun than a PPK) and longer frame spur. Also, Walther did manage to sell more pistols that would otherwise be banned under the harsh rules of GCA-68 by building them domestically (Walther U.S.A.).

A blank firing replica manufactured by the Italian company Kimar (a subsidiary of Armi Chiappa) the Lady K can be identified by the lower position of the magazine release catch, and the rounded extension to the frame around the assembly pin above the trigger. With the barrel permanently blocked and gas port relief holes drilled in the top of the chamber, it is definitely in the class of starter pistol and won't fire a flash in front of the barrel, but straight up.

The Model 1897 was an evolution of the earlier Model 1893, designed by John Browning. It was the first truly successful pump-action shotgun produced. From 1897 until it was discontinued by Winchester in 1957, over a million of these guns were produced in various grades and barrel lengths. 16-gauge guns had a standard barrel length of 28 inches, while 12-gauge guns were furnished with 30-inch barrels. Special length barrels could be ordered in lengths as short as 20 inches, and as long as 36 inches.

Originally produced as a tougher, stronger version of the Winchester 1893, the 1897 was identical to its forerunner except for the receiver, which was thicker and allowed the use of smokeless powder shells, which were relatively new at the time. The 1897 also introduced a "take down" design, where the barrel could be taken off, which is standard in modern pump-action shotguns like the Remington 870. Production drew to a close in the late 1950s, when the "modern" hammerless designs became widespread, and it was gradually superseded by the [[Winchester Model 1912]], with which it was coexisting.

The United States military used a short-barreled version, often called the "trench gun" by US troops, who made extensive use of it in both World Wars. This version was modified by adding a perforated steel heat shield over the barrel, and an adapter with bayonet lug for affixing a M1917 bayonet. Unlike most modern pump-action shotguns, the M1897 fired each time the action closed with the trigger depressed (that is, it lacks a trigger disconnector). That and its six-shot capacity made it extremely effective for close combat, and its devastating results caused the German government to protest (in vain) to have it outlawed in combat. The M1897 was used in limited numbers during World War II by the United States Army and Marine Corps, although it was outnumbered by the hammerless Model 1912 trench guns, which were now more common in the hands of US troops.

This version was modified by adding a perforated steel heat shield over the barrel, and an adapter with bayonet lug for affixing a M1917 bayonet. Unlike most modern pump-action shotguns, the M1897 fired each time the action closed with the trigger depressed (that is, it lacks a trigger disconnector). That and its six-shot capacity made it extremely effective for close combat, and its devastating results caused the German government to protest (in vain) to have it outlawed in combat. The M1897 was used in limited numbers during World War II by the United States Army and Marine Corps, although it was outnumbered by the hammerless Model 1912 trench guns, which were now more common in the hands of US troops.

The High Standard FLITE KING shotgun series was manufactured in the sixties and early seventies. But High Standard's quality control began to slip and later models (built by 3rd party manufacturers) began to suffer from parts and metallurgy failures in the field. As a result, High Standard's shotguns were unable to compete with Remington, Winchester, Ithaca and Mossberg and they stopped all together in the mid 1970s. There were a variety of models and model numbers, indicating finish, rifled sights, slug barrels, field version, riot version and either higher end or economy versions. Most High Standard shotguns look very similar despite their different model numbers. Though marked with the High Standard name, many of these shotguns were built by third party manufacturers, both domestic (like Savage or Stevens) or foreign, on license.

The K-1200 Shotgun was the most commonly seen in movies and television. It was introduced in May 1966. Catalog #8104 was the Riot Standard model with riot sights and a 20" barrel. Catalog #8111 was the Riot Standard model with riot sights and an 18 1/8th inch barrel. Catalog #8113 was the Riot Deluxe model with rifle sights and an 18 1/8th inch barrel. Catalog #8116 & #8117 were the Brush deluxe versions (field guns) but with 20" barrels. The other Catalog Numbers #8115-8165 were long barreled hunting and trap/skeet field guns with various features. The K-120 was the same shotgun as the K-1200 (but built by a different subcontractor) and was introduced in 1969. All of the sub-models (and Catalog Numbers) are the same, and they are visually impossible to tell apart without close inspection.

It's been half a year since I first visited your site, trying to find out which weapons were used in Assault on Precinct 13 (2005), and since then came to like it a lot. 1. My favorite, The Sword ("Меч"), an 2009 Russian/Ukrainian action TV-series about the group of vigilantes created by former VDV captain Maxim Kalinin. The show is extremely cool and exciting, despite low budget. It's as if Rogue Force were to be filmed as TV-series. I can provide you with the list of almost ALL of weapons used in the series.
