Colt M1911A1
This weapon was originally going to be a Glock 17, but for some reason Rockstar forgot to render it as such. Instead they left in the old M1911A1 render from GTA III and Vice City. Called the "9mm" it is used by all members of the San Andreas Law Enforcement community, unrealistically, this weapon carries 17 rounds in a magazine (like the Glock it was supposed to be) and isn't very powerful. When the player reaches the "Hitman" skill level, he can wield two of these pistols. A suppressed version is also available for use in the game, it does more damage but uses a different ammunition type than the regular "9mm".

IMI/Magnum Desert Eagle
The Desert Eagle is more powerful than the pistol and silenced pistol. Catalina uses one in some levels involving her, and one of the Villains, Officer Eddie Pulaski (Chris Penn), carries one during the "High Noon" level. CJ is seen holding one after Officer Frank Tenpenny (Samuel L. Jackson) is killed. Cesar Vialpando uses one in one level during the Los Santos riots. Sweet uses one during the riots, and the Grove Street gang members obtain these complete with a knife instead of the regular pistol if the player finds the 100 hidden tags.
Ithaca 37
The Ithaca 37 is the basic shotgun carried by some cops, gang members and enemies in the game. Has a slow rate of fire, but is quite effective at CQC. CJ and Catalina use two of these weapons during the bank robbery level.

Sawn-off Double Barreled Shotgun
Called the "Sawn Off Shotgun" in the game, it is powerful, especially when CJ can begin to carry two of these weapons. But it's range is limited.

The Franchi SPAS-12 is called the "Combat Shotgun", and is faster and more effective than the other shotguns. Officer Tenpenny holds one during the last mission of the game.
IMI Micro Uzi
The Uzi appears in the game as the "Micro-SMG", and is used by some gang members. It is a lot more accurate and powerful than the TEC-9, and can be eventually be double-wielded like the TEC-9. It is always shown with jungle-style taped magazines. There's something odd about this weapon in the game, the gun is obviously an Uzi but the HUD icon shows a Mac-10/11.

Heckler & Koch MP5A3
Called "SMG" in the game, it is very powerful and accurate for a submachine gun. The MP5A3 is used by Russians and Mafia thugs alike, random gang members, FBI Agents, and the Grove Street gang members after the player has found the 100 tags. Some LSPD SWAT Officers are seen carrying them as well.
Rifles
Norinco Type 56
The Norinco Type 56, as told by it's hooded front sights (which differs from that of the AK-47), is used by some enemies and gang members. A rusty old one is used by CJ during the "Reuniting the Families" level. Also worth noting is the fact that the gun is unrealistically 2/3 long as CJ is tall. Sweet uses it in two of the missions.

Colt Model 733
Called the "M4" in the game, it is actually the Colt Model 733 Carbine, which is distinguished by it's shortened barrel. The name is anachronistic, since the game is set in 1992; while early prototypes of the M4 existed as long ago as 1986, the weapon did not enter large-scale production until 1994. It is used by National Guard Soldiers in the game, and by some of Big Smoke's thugs when CJ attacks his crack fortress. It is more accurate and just as powerful as the Type 56, despite the actual weapon firing 5.56x45mm rounds, as compared to the Type 56s 7.62x39mm rounds (which are far more powerful yet the Type-56 shares the same ammo pool with the M733), and is depicted in-game with a very unrealistic 50-round magazine, whereas the actual weapon only holds 30. Note: The front sight is backwards.

Marlin Model 336
Called the "Rifle" in game, the Marlin Model 336 has no scope, but is very accurate and benefits from a certain zooming, provided in-game, similar to the zoom encountered when aiming with the M4 (Colt M733) and AK-47 (Norinco Type 56), although not as useful as the actual sniper rifle's scope. It is not used often by players as it is very slow-firing compared to other weapons.

The Remington 700 is simply called "Sniper Rifle" in the game. It's improvements over the "Rifle" are much higher damage and a sniper scope.
Heavy Weapons
Hand Held GE M134
The most powerful weapon in the game, this weapon is used 3 times by CJ:, first when protecting Zero's (David Cross) store from Berkley's planes, again while attacking the container ship in San Fierro Bay, and then again to take out two National Guard Hunter Helicopters in the "Up, Up, and Away" level. It can also be found in Mike Toreno's (James Woods) ranch house after the mission "Vertical Bird"

RPG-7
The RPG-7 is the basic rocket launcher in the game, and CJ uses one several times in the game, notably in "Are You Going To San Fierro?" to shoot down a police chopper, and in "Toreno's Last Flight".

SA-7 Grail / FIM-92A Stinger
Called the "Heat Seeking Rocket Launcher" in the game, this weapon can lock onto enemy vehicles (including pedal bicycles), making this weapon more effective than the Rocket Launcher at shooting down helicopters.
Strangely, when it's on the ground it resembles an SA-7 Grail, but when CJ picks it up it turns into an FIM-92A Stinger.

Hughes M230 chain gun and AGM-114 Hellfire anti-tank missile
San Andreas, like Vice City, features a version of the Hughes AH-64 Apache, known as the "Hunter." It has an M230 chain gun in a chin mount, and wing mounts containing eight AGM-114 Hellfire missiles in two packs of four, as well as two non-functional Hydra 70 rocket pods. It is used in a few missions during flying school. When all flying school missions are completed with gold medals, the Hunter spawns at Verdant Meadows Airfield. You can also use this for vigilante missions, althought these missions are called "Brown Thunder" instead (a spoof on the film, Blue Thunder).

Other
Glock 17
Not an in-game weapon, but the 1st generation Glock 17 is seen in a few cutscenes from the movie "The Introduction" (a movie released shortly after the game, to explain what happened before CJ came back to Los Santos). It is used by Salvatore Leone (Frank Vincent) to threaten Ken Rosenberg (William Fichtner) and Officer Jimmy Hernandez to kill Officer Ralph Pendelbury. In the actual game, it is used by Officer Eddie Pulaski after CJ is taken by C.R.A.S.H. to the countryside, and by Mike Toreno when he first meets CJ.

The real Glock 17 uses a 17 round Magazine. The Glock's existence in certain cutscenes may explain why the M1911 skined '9mm Pistols' in the game have an unrealistic magazine capacity, as the game skins were changed from a Glock to an M1911 during development but the magazine capacity remained the same, as did some of the skins in certain cutscenes.

Colt M1911A1
Called "Pistol" ingame, the Colt M1911A1 has a incorrectly large magazine capacity of 17 rounds (like a Glock 17), moderate rate of fire and low damage. It is the most popular weapon in the game, used by the VCPD, all gang members, Patrol Invest Group (PIG) guards and many more. Great all-round weapon for virtually all situations from Vice Beach (first island) missions.

You can easily stock up on ammo for free from as soon as the game starts from thug/cop fights if the thug wins (punch him once for "Good Citizen Bonus", and lead him to the cop so they fight. Thugs usually wins as long as you don't punch him too much, and you get a free nightstick and pistol).

This is virtually the only weapon used by armed NPC's in free-roam outside of missions and sub-missions, the exceptions being the Ammu-nation store shopkeepers, the Golfers and the soldiers around Fort Baxter (programmed similar to gangs) and Tommy's Gang after completing the storyline missions.
Colt Python
Called ".357" ingame, the Colt Python is an extremely powerful handgun and has a low ammunition capacity of 6 rounds, and a very slow rate of fire. This weapon is very rare in the game, but is sold in two out of the three Ammu-nations. It is not used by any NPC in the game except for the Ammu-nation store-keeper in Downtown VC. It can usually kill a person in one shot, except for law enforcement units with bullet-proof vests like the SWAT, FBI and National Guardsmen, where it's slow rate of fire can become a big hinderance. Interestingly, Tommy uses one in the cutscene at the end of the mission 'Rub Out' even if you don't have one in your inventory. An empty shell is incorrectly shown being ejected after each shot.

Sub-Machine Guns
Has a theme color of yellow. All can be used in drive-bys and can be fired to the front or sides while riding motorcycles. Interestingly, when fired from a vehicle, they all have the sound-bites of the Uzi, and a drastically much higher damage, so that one bullet will usually kill virtually every type of NPC.

Intratec Tec-9
The Tec-9 has a somewhat low rate of fire compared to other submachine guns in the game, moderate damage, and a high capacity magazine of 50 rounds. Used most prominently by Street Wannabes and low-level thug muscle in a few missions, but also by other gangs and the respawning Mafia attackers in 'Keep your friends close'.

MAC-10
The MAC-10 is a weapon with a high rate of fire and somewhat low damage. Sort of a small upgrade to the Tec-9. This weapon is very rare, as it is never used by NPC's during any missions - it is only wielded by the storekeeper of the Ammu-nation Store that sells the weapon in Vice Beach - but on the PC version only. On the PS2 version, he is unarmed. Interestingly, the game icon for this is actually a Micro Uzi. The opposite is the case of the "Micro-SMG" in GTA: San Andreas, where the game icon is that of a MAC-10, whereas the game skin is that of a Micro Uzi. The same model also appears later in GTA: Liberty City Stories
IMI Uzi
Considerably the second most popular weapon in the game. The IMI Uzi has moderate damage and a very fast rate of fire. Used by some law enforcement officers (SWAT, Cheetah Undercover Officers), gang members such as Haitians and Cubans and many more NPCs throughout the game.
Heckler & Koch MP5A3
One of the most powerful weapons in the game. The MP5 has a high rate of fire but slightly less than the Uzi's, able to fire long ranges and a moderate magazine capacity of 30 rounds. Can be found on FBI agents and US Army officers. Ricardo Diaz uses one when Tommy and Lance take over his mansion.

Ithaca 37
The Ithaca 37 is a good reliable shotgun with a sort of fast firing rate. Has a low/medium damage. Called "Chrome Shotgun" in game.

Ruger Mini-14
The Ruger Mini-14 is the first assault rifle the player encounters in the game. It has a slow rate of fire and somewhat inaccurate with moderate damage. Tommy and Lance use two of these weapons to cover Diaz during a Drug Deal gone wrong with the Cubans. It is also used during the mission "All hands on Deck" when Colonel Cortez's sailor's wield these, and Tommy has one too.

The Colt Model 733 is a assault rifle with a high rate of fire and damage. Tommy and Lance use 733s during their assault on Diaz' Mansion. Also used by some Military personnel and found spawned across the map. It is erroneously referred to as the "M4" in game, referring to the similar M4 Carbine despite the M4 not being introduced until 1994.

The SR9(T) is the most powerful sniper rifle in the game. Comes with a 7 round magazine (though the real weapon only takes 5. 10, or 20 round magazines), and a laser magnifying scope (Which is more accurate in the long run). Can destroy a car with a whole magazine. Called Sniper .308 in PS2 version. Appears to be modeled after the fake SR9(T) from Sniper. This configuration is an anachronism, the SR9 series was not introduced until after the 1989 import ban. There is also a nonfunctional suppressor on the rifle.

Highly effective machine gun with a 100 round capacity. The M60 can easily take down vehicles and can kill a person in one shot. The standard handgun in Grand Theft Auto IV is visibly a second generation Glock 22. It is the standard issue police sidearm and is used by all law enforcement agents as well as many other characters throughout the game. Though it's difficult to discern this detail in-game, looking at the weapon's texture close up reveals the number "22" on the slide, confirming that it is a Glock 22, despite it's 17 round magazine (incorrect for the caliber). In addition, the front sights on the weapon are a mirror image of the rear sights, which is obviously incorrect. It is also the primary gun a vigilante will use when attacking the player

The Desert Eagle Mark XIX in the game is chambered in .357 Magnum, however is modeled after the .50AE variant, noted by the absence of the fluted barrel. Called 'Combat Pistol' in the game, it is a more powerful handgun, and is used by a variety of characters throughout the game.

A cheap and poorly done airsoft version of the Ithaca 37 "Stakeout", appears as the "Pump Shotgun". It is used by various gang members and by some LCPD, N.O.O.S.E. and FIB officers. For some reason, the in-game clone has a side mounted ejection port, instead of a bottom loading/ejection port that all Ithaca 37 shotguns are fitted with in real life. Also, the in-game clone can hold 8 shells, four more than its real-life counterpart. Packie McReary uses one during the bank robbery in "Three Leaf Clover" before switching to his AK47, Packie's friend Gordon King uses one during the mission "Waste Not Want Knots". Biker vigilantes also use this.
The Remington 1100 TAC 4 semi-auto appears as the "Combat Shotgun", it becomes available later in the game, and can be obtained from LCPD patrol cars despite the fact that the cops themselves actually use the Pump Shotgun when provoked. The in-game version can hold 10 shells, two more than it's real-life counterpart. It also has a fancy thumbhole stock, barrel ribbing, and a bayonet mount.
IMI Micro Uzi
The Micro Uzi is used by many criminals in Liberty City. The weapon has a large magazine capacity of 50 rounds (even though the magazine's dimensions match those of a 32 round magazine) and a high rate of fire, but is somewhat lacking in accuracy and range. Jacob uses one twice in the game, first during the "Russian Revolution" level, and later brandishes one in the later levels of the game.
This is NOT the AKM, as evidenced by lack of muzzle brake, the stock is angled downward compared to an AKM and also has a milled receiver compared to the stamped receiver on the AKM. It is seen many times throughout the game, provided in some missions and brandished by many different characters.
The M4A1 Carbine is issued to LCPD N.O.O.S.E teams, prison guards, and select officers guarding public places such as subway stations and the airport, and appears to have the carry handle removed and has only a stick-up rear sight. Niko uses an M4A1 when he helped the McReary gang rob the Bank of Liberty in the mission "Three Leaf Clover".
Remington 700
The basic bolt action sniper rifle featured in the game is the Remington 700. It is used by the majority of marksmen in the game. The gun appears to have undergone slight customization, with a 10 round magazine fitted, yet only holds 5. Niko uses one in one level to cover Packie during a drug deal gone wrong, and later he uses one when he hits a construction site with Playboy X.
One of the loading screens as the game is starting up depicts two Police officers climbing a flight of stairs while brandishing weapons; one has what could be either a Heckler & Koch MP5 or MP10, with the angle making it hard to judge for sure, while the other has a Franchi SPAS-12 shotgun. Also, early artwork of Niko depict him holding a Franchi SPAS-12 with it's stock removed.

The game's version of this weapon is a CZ 75 Automatic, the machine pistol version of the CZ 75 pistol. It holds 17 rounds, and is referred to as the "Automatic 9mm". It is introduced in the mission "Bad Cop Drop". It is very accurate, and has a very high firing rate, but it isn't that powerful. The game's Glock 22 even seems to do more damage than this pistol.
Remington 1100 TAC 4
In "The Lost and Damned", there are two versions of this particular weapon available. The first is the thumbhole stocked version from the original game (seen above) which is available for purchase from Terry's gun van, and normal weapon shops. The second version is fitted with a carbine retractable stock, pistol grip, and picatinny rail. This version seems to be an easter egg, and has to be found in certain locations, such as the apartment building in the mission "Buyers Market". This version also appears in one of the trailers.
Sawn-off double barreled shotgun
This sawed-off 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun is called the "Sawed off Shotgun" in the game. It is the first weapon that you are equiped with at the start. It can be fired while riding on a Motorcycle, but can't be used in other types of vehicles. Regardless, it is the only shotgun in the series so far that can be fired from a vehicle. Unlike the other shotguns in the game, this shotgun has an accurate ammo capacity, as it holds only two shells. On a bike, this weapon is very effective, as it can take down almost any target in no time. On foot, it has a very wide range, but a very slow rate of fire due to it's small ammo capacity. A good weapon to have, but it can't compare to the game's Street Sweeper.

The SWD / Cobray Street Sweeper is called an "Assault Shotgun" in the game, but is also referred to as "Street Sweeper" by characters. It holds an incorrect 8 shells and is incorrectly portrayed as being fully automatic with an extremely high rate of fire (the real-life Cobray Street Sweeper holds 10/12 rounds and is semi-automatic). It can dispatch of enemies and vehicles in no time, and apparently has the ability to take down helicopters as well. It is introduced in the mission "Heavy Toll", but is notably used during the mission "Shifting Weight".
It can be used to bounce grenades off walls, and corners in a similar fashion to the RPG. It is introduced in the mission "Action/Reaction". It is very effective, but sometimes overshoots your intended target. Though it fires one grenade at a time, up to 20 can be held in reserve.
The first firearm Claude uses is the Colt M1911A1. It is used by the Liberty City Police Department and every gang in the city. The notable exception being the Diablos in the beginning of the game, they only carry bats until Claude betrays them for King Courtney's Yardie Posse. It is erroneously referred to as a "nine" by Luigi Gotterelli (Joe Pantoliano), Joey Leone (Michael Rapaport), and even the clerk at AmmuNation. It has a twelve round magazine capacity. It is first seen when Catalina shoots Claude in the opening bank robbery, then is later given to Claude in either Pump-Action Pimp or Farewell 'Chunky' Lee Chong, depending on which mission the player chooses first, and becomes available for purchase at the Portland AmmuNation afterwards.
The Leones and the Triads go bananas on each other with Micro Uzis during Triads And Tribulations. Claude uses it to perform drive-by shootings. It is first seen being used by Pump Action Pimp's Diablo bodyguard and is available for purchase at the Portland AmmuNation after Cipriani's Chauffeur, and later at the Staunton Island AmmuNation.
The shotgun in the game is a Remington 870 Folding Stock. It has a slow rate of fire, but is very powerful at close range. It is used by the Leone mafiosi (after Claude assassinates Salvatore Leone (Frank Vincent), the clerk at AmmuNation, Curly Bob in Cutting The Grass, and the guy (Carl) who kills Marty Chonks at the end of Her Lover. They can be found with five rounds of ammunition inside of the LCPD police cars, or can be purchased from Phil Cassidy.
Referred to as an AK-47, it more closely resembles a Romanian version, the WASR-2. (Note the black pistol grip, and the slightly curved, thinner, solid black magazine.) It is used by the Colombians and, strangely, the FBI. It can be purchased at the AmmuNation on Staunton Island. It is first seen in Bomb Da Base, being used by the carteleros guarding the freighter.
M16
Referred to as an M16, it more closely resembles the similar Armalite AR10. (Note the design of the forearm, the shape and thickness of the barrel, the lack of a forward assist, and the relative thickness of the magazine.) It can be manually aimed. It has a 60 round magazine and a ridiculously high rate of fire. It is carried by Phil Cassidy, the Colombians, and the National Guard. Making its first appearance when the Colombians ambush the prisonbound police convoy to kidnap the Oriental Gentleman, it first appears in actual gameplay during Under Surveillance in the hands of the Leones' vengeful hit squad. It can be purchased from Phil Cassidy after rescuing him from the Colombians.
Remington 700
The Remington 700 must be manually aimed to be fired. It is first used by Claude to cover 8 Ball while he rigs the cartel's freighter for scuttling during Bomb Da Base. It can be purchased from the AmmuNation on Staunton Island.
M72 LAW
The M72 LAW must be manually aimed. Claude holds it backwards and uses the endcap as a grip. He uses one to shoot down Catalina's helicopter in the final mission in the game, The Exchange. It is available for purchase from Phil Cassidy after Claude rescues him from the Colombians.
Flamethrower
A flamethrower appears in the game, and can set anything flammable on fire. It can be purchased from a garage in Shoreside Vale. Claude uses it to stir fry some triads in Trial By Fire.
M67 Grenade
The standard hand grenade in the game is the M67 HE-Frag. First gifted to Claude by Toni Cipriani (Michael Madsen) in Taking Out The Laundry. They are available for purchase at the Staunton Island AmmuNation.
