Mafia II is an open-world action-adventure video game, the sequel of Mafia: The City of Lost Heaven. It was developed by 2K Czech and published by 2K Games in 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
The Colt M1911A1 is the standard pistol throughout the game. This weapon is seen being used by Vito, Joe and Henry in the game. The M1911A1 is Vito's favorite gun.
In Chapter 10 Joe and Vito use a special custom version with a 23 round magazine. Joe tells Vito not to lose it because there are only two in the world, yet it can be bought at Giuseppe's. This version also appears to be nickel-plated. Appears as "1911 Semi" in game.
The Mauser C96 can be seen being used by an Italian soldier in the training mission. Can be bought at Harry's gun shop. It incorrectly uses .45 ACP rounds (only the Chinese Shansi Type 17 variant uses .45 ACP rounds) and is shown to be reloaded by inserting a vertical box magazine into the weapons magazine from the underside of the magazine housing. Some early Mauser C96 prototypes had a box magazine feature but they were rejected.
The preferred submachine gun of the police officers in the game is the Thompson M1A1. It is commonly seen with a 30-round box magazine. The fact that the Empire Police use this weapon during the 1940s section of the game is highly unlikely as this weapon was being issued to US troops fighting overseas.
The Thompson M1928 is the main submachine gun of the gangsters. The Thompson M1928 is seen with a 50-round drum magazine. When Henry is shot in the leg, Joe uses a Thompson M1928 to kill the man with Vito. The M1928 Thompson in game is modeled with an M1/M1A1 Thompson stock and is incorrectly shown firing from a closed bolt.
The M1 Garand is also show to be carried by Prison Guards during the 1940s, this is also unlikely as it was being used overseas by US troops. Male burger restaurant owners will pull out an M1 Garand if Vito pulls out a firearm in their store.
A Remington 870 Field Gun is seen on the table in the gun shop screen. Used by Vito, gangsters, cops, and random shop owners. An anachronism, the 870 wasn't produced until 1950 which makes it incorrect to have for the first five missions. The raised rib was also a feature that wouldn't be added until later. Also, the shotgun in-game carries 8 rounds whereas it is modeled to look like it holds 4. For some reason even if Vito fires once and reloads one shell, he always pumps the gun, but still retains the same amount of ammo. An advertisement on the in-game radio specifically calls the weapon a Remington 870.
Star Model B
As seen in this screenshot, the weapon that the protagonist uses is a Star Model B, not a Colt M1911. Presumably the weapon designers got access to a movie armory, and subsequently mapped the trademarks off a Star (preferred by movie armorers due to its reliability when cycling 9mm blanks) rather than a Colt.
MiPod 21:34, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
:"preferred by movie armorers due to its reliability when cycling 9mm blanks rather than a Colt." That might have been the case.. in the 70s. Since the mid 80s a better .45 acp blank was developed for use with pistols such as the 1911, prior to this .45 acp blanks were made from cut down .30-06 cases that had hard rifle primers. Other than Pulp Fiction which is old now anyways, do you ever see a Star Model B in a new film? It is cool that they went with the Star rather than the standard Colt 1911. --Predator20 21:54, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
::It doesn't have an external extractor, so I think that the game designers chose the name Star for the in-game gun so that they wouldn't have to pay Colt for naming rights, but I don't think that they are aware of the Star Model B. But thats just what I think --Jackbel 21:58, 28 January 2011 (UTC)

Well a couple things to add in addition to what Jackbel mentioned. It says Cal .45 on the slide, so that would make it a model P, if it is a Star at all. In addition the dev company's name is Rock*star* games, so they probably used the last half "Star" as a generic name and/ or a nod to themselves.-Ranger01 22:09, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
:haha, just noticed that --Jackbel 22:22, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
::Ah! I didn't even think of that. However, you can just see the Star emblem behind the word "STAR" on the slide in that picture, so it seems to me that the "Star" is intentional. Also, the two lines of writing, one above the other, in front of the Star name matches the trademarks on a real Star. MiPod 00:04, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

It's a hybrid gun if anything. Sure it has the Star markings but there is a noticeable lack of the external extractor, also that gun has no bushing. ShootingLiberal 19:07, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
:Of course! I knew there was something wrong with the muzzle! MiPod 00:46, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

Maybe naming it Star is itelf a nod to what the armorers did. Rockstar is known for some far-reaching movie references. BeardedHoplite 00:52, 30 January 2011 (UTC)

I'm wondering (As many other are too), whether you will have the ability to be able to kill civilians (Even though you are a police officer), as Red Dead Redemption itself had John Marston "canonically" be a good guy, yet inbetween missions, you could be a cold-hearted killer. I'm wondering if they will do what Assassin's Creed did. You could kill civilians, but you are punished for it, and after completion of the story mode, you have the ability to kill civilians with no punishment (Other than ingame law enforcement). By the way, this game is looking good (Gameplay wise, as well as graphics (I am in no way a graphics whore, as I believe Jurassic: The Hunted graphics were also pretty good).
It's semi-auto, because it's "one shot per trigger pull, no questions asked". It's single-action, because all the trigger does is drop the hammer. The hammer is automatically re-cocked by the slide's movement when cycling through ammunition. If the hammer is down, you can't fire the weapon unless you cock it manually or by cycling the slide. --HashiriyaR32 21:30, 8 April 2011 (CDT)
Are we sure the Hi-power isn't usable in the game? I read on another message board that [WARNING: Possible spoiler ahead] when playing as the character of Jack Kelso the FN Browning is your default weapon. I wasn't sure if this referred to the Hi-power model, so I watched the walkthrough video for the case "A Polite Invitation" on Youtube, and while I couldn't get a clear view of his pistol, he did appear to fire it 12-13 times before reloading.

I'm wondering if they will do what Assassin's Creed did. You could kill civilians, but you are punished for it, and after completion of the story mode, you have the ability to kill civilians with no punishment (Other than ingame law enforcement).

This rifle is also available in a two-tone sort of finish in which the stock and fore end are some sort of gray and black tigers'-stripe. Since this weapon is the same M16 with a minimally altered skin, it stands as a rather questionable choice of weapon.
The M4A1 CQBR is an shorter version of the common M4A1. This configuration is best suited for close-quarter or close-range engagements. On the in-game image, most of the classic M16/M4 carry handle is chopped off, leaving the rear sight+charging handle. As well, the stock is replaced with a cheek weld stock.
The project was originally an attempt to modify and renovate the United States aging battle rifles (after the XM8 Rifles were rejected) but eventually evolved into a completely different rifle altogether. In-game, it's called the M416.
The L85A1 IW, or SA80, is featured in the game as a very powerful rifle issued at a high rank. It often has its own proprietary scope (the SUSAT) mounted on top, and like the "M16A3" from the game, it shares the same factual inaccuracy in that it actually fires in semi/auto modes, but in the game it is burst/auto capable.
Most players prefer it even though it is the weakest sniper rifle because its auto firing and low recoil allows quick follow up shots. A goof is that even though the ingame model and ingame image shows this rifle with a attached suppressor, when used in-game, it is not suppressed. However, the M110 SASS correctly shows, and displays the unsuppressed barrel, even though if the game disallows attachment of suppressors.

Both the Smith & Wesson Model 27 and the Model 28 were born from the original S&W Registered Magnum (introduced in 1935). The Smith & Wesson Model 27 was a finely crafted high gloss blued .357 magnum revolver. Smith & Wesson later released the Model 28, also known as the "Highway Patrolman". These are essentially identical revolvers except the Model 28 was streamlined for lower cost but equal performance. The Model 28 was in production from 1954 through 1986. The Model 28 eliminated the expensive top strap checkering and had a matte blued finish. Other than that it is the identical gun. The high end Model 27 was favored amongst FBI and other federal law enforcement agencies well into the 1960s. The 'economy' Model 28 was favored among state and local law enforcement.
