Mortar scene
So I've been recording this game, and I noticed that the mortar sequence is impossible in at least four different ways.

*The mortar has a milder version of the magic TARDIS rounds from Homefront. The M722 smoke round for the M224 weighs a mighty 3.7 rounds, and when you take into account the tail, fuze, bursting charge, propelling charge and so on, that's probably all of 1 pound of WP per round.
*Which doesn't matter, because it has an impact fuze and so the only way to hurt someone with it would be to land a round on top of them, in which case they'd be more worried about the bursting charge blowing their head off.
*Which doesn't matter either, because the minimum range of the mortar is 70 metres, which is close to the maximum range Walker fires it at.
*Which also doesn't matter, because there's only one round shown in the vicinity of the mortar, and it's the camera round.

So the central plot event of the game is caused by the team firing rounds they don't have to somewhere they couldn't hit, detonating in a way they can't and doing damage they couldn't possibly do. Thus, um, showing the...true...horror...um... Evil Tim (talk) 08:48, 31 July 2013 (EDT)

Wow. I thought this game was just a generic cover-based TPS hiding behind it's plot and messages, but THAT is just laughable. Did they even bother to research for that scene? Gunmaster2011 1:52AM, 08/08/2013

:I doubt it. It seems they based the detonations on 155mm artillery rounds and the burned bodies are based on images of people who were killed in massive building fires ignited by WP, not on people who had direct impact burns (which are very nasty, but not the all-over burns you see in the game). Nevermind that if you try to hit something you're not supposed to in that sequence (the fuel tanks to the top left, the tent to the top right or any moving vehicle) the game completely ignores it because they want the camp to look a certain way when you walk through it. Evil Tim (talk) 03:07, 8 August 2013 (EDT)

:: Well, [SPOILERS] given that everything we see in the game is either completely made up or altered to a degree by increasingly insane Walker, it's possible that the effects of the WP are heavily altered in his eyes either/or by his guilt for what he had done, or somehow demonizing Konrad even more for "forcing" Walker to use the WP.

::It would also explain several other implausible things like constantly appearing Desert Eagle, heavily armored troopers who can eat rockets for breakfast, and one-handed loading of the grenade launcher during the water run. --AlkoTanko (talk) 15:23, 16 August 2013 (EDT)

===M1 Garand===
Some comments in the article are made about soldiers holding their M1 rifles with one hand. The comments say that the weapons shown are replicas due to their obvious light weight. While I've never held an M1, I have held an M14 with one hand. It is not difficult to hold such a weapon with one hand, especially for brief periods. Axeman 22:10, 23 October 2008 (UTC)

:An M14 is maybe a pound or two lighter (less wood and a little smaller) but Garands are bulky and heavy. They may have been accurate and reliable but they were very cumbersome. For maybe a few seconds you can hold an M1 with one hand but it is terribly uncomfortable and definitely not how someone would hold a Garand comfortably when not reading it. Plus many of those soldiers hold the gun with one hand at an forward tilted angle, which would cause quite some strain on the wrist. (I repeated everything they did with their Garands in the movie and most of it is not that easy) And what I mean to say by lightweigh replicas is that it is likely the extras were using resin replicas that were nice and light but even the main characters had lighter rifles, they were considerably gutted in heavy spots to make them easier to carry. -GM45

::Something else I realized he said that is bullshit; 'An m14 is maybe a pound or two lighter'. A GI M14 weighs ~2 pounds more than an M1 garand. It is EASIER to hold an M1 than an M14. M1s are lighter due to being SHORTER and having a much smaller magazine (8 rounds of 30 caliber ammo versus 10-20 rounds of 30 caliber ammo). GM, it appears you have no fucking clue what you're talking about, and I really question if you ever held either of the firearms in question. --Asmkillr323 16:51, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

::An M1 Garand weighs less than 10 pounds. It is not hard to hold 10 pounds in one hand, and if you really think its some sort of feat of strength, you need to go to a gym. --Asmkillr323 13:34, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
:::Was about to say the same. But if you're happen to be that weak, you should carry something like M1 carbine or a Grease gun. Or sit and fill the blanks in HQ.

Holding the thumb to the offside, as shown in the illustration of Upham firing his Garand, is actually the "proper" way to hold the rifle to AVOID getting hit in the nose by one's own thumb in recoil. While the gas operation of the Garand somewhat tames the recoil impulse, there's still plenty. Also, the stock and upper handguard will protect the hand from being pinched by the reciprocating operating rod, as long as the finger tips are not actually stuck in the gap between the two parts of the stock. Upham shows good form, for a guy who appeared to have no prior experience as a rifleman.

Okay I'll be contentious just for the heck of it. I would argue that in combat with adrenalin blasting through your body you might just be able to hold the M1 Garand with one hand for awhile. Not only would you be having a temporary increase in strength but you probably wouldn't notice the discomfort for awhile. Adrenalin is a weird thing. Many stories from wars of soldiers getting shot and not even realizing it until minutes after the fact.Just thought I would put that at there. --Jcordell 23:05, 21 May 2009 (UTC)

I have to agree that it's not that far fetched to hold an M1 Garand one handed. I own a Mossberg 500 with a 28" barrel and a Mosin Nagant 91/30. The Mossberg is about 7.5lbs and I do one hand hold reloads, holding the shotgun on target. The Mosin is 8 1/2 lbs and I have no trouble holding it one handed. I'm not a trained soldier, nor a weight lifter. But, it seems to me that a trained soldier should have no problem lifting one more pound than I can.

::Actually, the M1 Garand is about 9 to 11 pounds and the M14 is 11.5 pounds. - Kenny99 16:47, 17 July 2010 (UTC)
:::While this discussion is relatively dead now, my point at the time was that it's not comfortable to carry the weapon like that. It's not impossible, but the weight is enough that carrying it like that (especially at enough of an angle that the front end would direct the weight forward, giving the wrist more work) would be uncomfortable. That was my reason to assume that some of the rifles were lighter weight props (seeing as some of these are for sale, they were present for filming along with the firing props). As for the M14 info, I fucked up there. It's not hard to correct someone without being a dick about it. Grow up. - Gunmaster45
Guy Blowing Up
Do we rely need a picture of a guy getting blown up? Frankly, I think it's disgusting and unnecessary. There's really no point, IMO, to have the picture on here. I know we censor nudity (The Whole Nine Yards, for example and I think extremely gory images should go or, if image has a nice shot of the gun, possibly cover the gore with a blck box. Seriously, there's no need for a gratuitous shot of a guy blowing up here. --Mandolin 02:04, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- I would say you're being a bit prudish personally (A guy gets blown up and that's sick but all the other images of blood-spraying bullet hits are ok?), but your comment has merit. If the dude got blown up but the image had a good shot of a firearm, that would be one thing I guess, but the point stands that that particular image is indeed unnecessary in terms of the informational value of it's section.
I'm still trying to understand why some particular gun people would rather spell the acryomn B-A-R, instead of just calling it "BAR". It's abbrieviated like a word that anyone recognize. I don't see why some gun nuts find it semi offensive when someone doesn't "pronounce" it right. It's like if ppl started calling NATO "N.A.T.O." cause it stands for something instead of just one flowing "word" NATO, or NORAD by each letter. I just don't get it Excalibur01 16:37, 27 January 2009 (UTC)
:It's just how it is. Everyone called it a B.A.R. and Bar just doesn't sound profesional. Personally I find it annoying when people call an A.C.O.G. an Acog, although this is okayed by most people so it's just a pet peeve of mine. - Gunmaster45
Maybe cos 'bar' is a word and people could think you're refering to a pub or a metal rod, whereas NATO, NORAD and ACOG etc. aren't similar to real words.

How it's pronounced is irrelevant. The site wants to appear professional, so it's best to properly punctuate the abbreviation. Acora 04:06, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
:Again, because it's not the way it was done. It's an old weapon. Someone back in the twenties decided to spell it out. It may not make sense, but that's the way it is, and we shouldn't change it. Now, if you want to change the way we pronounce a modern weapon like the HK UMP, and just start calling it "ump," then go ahead. ==Thompson Submachine Gun==
The nickname "Tommy Gun" is derived from either it's use by British troops ("Tommies") early in WWII, or is a reference John T. Thompson, who inspired its development.
The M1 and M1A1 were both easier and cheaper to make successors to the earlier M1928 model. The most obvious difference between the earlier M1928 and the two later models was the bolt cocking handle being moved to the side of the later models - it was on top on earlier Thompson versions - and the most obvious visible difference between the M1 and the M1A1 was the protective "ears" around the rear sight of the latter. Late-production M1928s and M1s had just an L-shaped piece of sheetmetal, with the peep sight drilled through it, welded to the top of the receiver.
::Um thanks, but why? We all know this information.... MoviePropMaster2008 18:45, 7 April 2009 (UTC)

Then why is differing or contrary information still on the site? Attention is specifically drawn to Upham's holding his Garand with his thumb off to the side, with the comment that it would cause the very problem that holding the rifle that way will prevent. As you can see in the pic of Vin Diesel, wrapping the thumb around the pistol grip is the way to get a big rap on the nose from your own thumb.
My comments about the Thompson (other than the Tommy Gun reference, which wasn't really specific to anything), is that the currently posted information says the M1A1 replaced the more expensive/complicated M1, when the M1 was actually the first of the "cheap" Thompsons, with the M1A1 being merely the definitive cheap Thompson. The Blish lock deletion, side cocking knob, fixed sight, smooth barrel, and other mods were already present on the M1.
M2 Mortar
I think the opinion on which end of the mortar shell to bang is incorrect. If the mortar shells are time fused (for airburst) the impact on the tail would simulate the high g-forces experienced when firing the shell from the tube. The time element would start burning/turning and then detonate later. If the shells are impact detonated the tail tap would arm the impact fuzing, the next shock would be the shell coming back to earth.

You are correct , mortar roundsare armed when they drop to the bottom of the mortar tube at the instant of firing. The movie is correct, the caption under the pic is wrong. Hitting the nose of the mortar against the base plate as the caption suggest would either do nothing if the fuse is not armed or would cause it to detonate in the guys hand.

Scope differnces
by the looks of things jackson uses three different scopes in some of the pics, i the scene where he is adjusting his scope for windage the scope clearly has a wider front end , in the stand-off scene where wall colapases he is using one the has a wider back end and a completely round front, and in the bell tower the scope has two vertical bars sticking out of the rifle which arent present in the previous scenes

A big problem I see is the caption under the unertl scope states he s twisting the front objective to adjust the elevation . The front objective is adjustable but just like all other scopes with adjustable objective all he is doing is adjusting the parallax. This adjustment keeps the cross hairs from apearing as if there floating around by properly focusing the scope for the range its being used at. Just because there are distance markings on the part he is turning it has nothing to do with elevation. You can clearly see the elevation and windage knobs, which he does adjust at one point , on the top and side of the rear scope mount.

As far as bullet impact and crosshair relationship at the moment of impact for the bullet, of course they dont match , forgetting the fact that its a movie we're talking about the simple fact that it take some length of time between when the shot is fired and the bullet impacts makes this a reality and historicly accurate. Simply put when you pull the trigger on any gun there is a delay before the bullet impacts your target , during this time the gun has begun to recoil, muscles contarct etc and the sights will not be pointed at the same object as they were at the moment of firing, simple physics. The mini-series ANZACS, starring Paul Hogan, is also another good source of recreated WW1 battles. Don't watch the stripped down movie version. You have to watch the full mini-series (nearly 10 hours long) to appreciate the story and attention to period detail. Does ANZACS have it's own page? If not, it deserves one. It was one of the first war movies/series where strict attention to detail with regard to weapons, uniforms, tactics, vehicles, etc, was used. ==SS Got Issued More Lugers?==

I'm curious as to who posted the comment about pictorial evidence suggesting the SS got more Lugers than the Wehrmacht, and what your source is for that? The Wehrmacht controlled procurement, which put the SS at the bottom of the chain for new weapons, espescially in the beginning of the war. That's why they ended up with so much foreign equipment, like the ZB-26 LMG and the Radom and Hi Power pistols. Almost all of the German produced Radoms and Hi Powers went to the SS so I doubt very much they'd have more Lugers than the regular army. More pistols maybe, but because they were getting the non-German ones I doubt Lugers. - Nyles
:The SS also got all the money from running the concentration camps, which included whatever money they can make from harvesting raw materials (by which I mean gold teeth, jewelry, hair, etc) and contracting out the labor. This allowed them to get a lot of stuff the army didn't get, or got later, like camo, because they actually owned or operated the factories. Small arms were probably included. I'm not saying whether or not the were or were not first in line to get Lugers, I'm just saying they probably could have if that's what they wanted. --funkychinaman 22:00, 11 August 2010 (UTC)

There are roughly four shotguns currently, the Ithaca Model 37, Benelli M3 and Striker which is currently named the Jail Breaker, the Hydra shotgun is the fictional shotgun with 3 barrels. Draco122

My biggest problem with this game
The intense gunplay is cool and fun, but when you come face to face with enemies with AK-74s and RPGS and turrets, having the ability to walk while shooting will go a long way, but the creators didn't want to do that because it takes away the intense quick aiming you have to do. Bullcrap. They did it because they don't want their game to feel like Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gears of Wars. I wouldn't have made this complaint if all enemies don't shoot back with full auto assault rifles. Bows and arrows and crossbows are ok, but when AKs are shooting at you, I like a better cover system and moving while shooting or aiming so I can peer around corners and take out threats. Excalibur01 12:04, 3 April 2009 (UTC)
Ditto here, there is nothing more frustraiting to just sit there and try to shoot back when one has trained IRL to shoot while moveing. Rockwolf66
:I have to agree. While I hugely enjoyed the game, having to freeze while shooting kind of sucked. However, it'd probably best to stay put when blasting away with the Gatling Gun. M14fanboy 06:16, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
::I have to disagree 100%. Resident Evil is supposed to be a survival horror game, not Metal Gear Solid, Halo, or Gears of War. It's not supposed to be a shooter. The franchise I loved for so long has begun to die since the day RE4 was released thanks to incorporating too many shooter elements. Spartan198 02:10, 21 December 2009 (UTC)

:look, there's survival horror in the sense that you are having to feel the horror and surviving it. But the gameplay is not realistic. And RE5 is more action than horror. It's saying Alien is horror and Aliens is action horror. RE5 is more action oriented and should have the capabilities of the 3rd person, on the move shooting. Look, if the creators wanted more Survival horror in RE5, they should have made the theme and story less action pack genre and more like the previous games before 4. Give it a more scare aspect. Fighting hordes of enemies isn't horror, it's annoying Excalibur01

RE4 should have never been made. How the HELL did they get RE4 after making RE1 GC (the gold standard of RE survival-horror; RE2 exceeds it in its novelty of new elements, but RE1 GC did everything by the book and perfectly), Zero, and Outbreak? Anyway, it's almost stupid easy to kill the AK gunmen in RE5, because they waste ammunition on cover (letting you headshot them while they reload) and don't fire while moving (if you can't beat RE5's AK AI, then you probably aren't good at GoW or any other shooter either). They get the same HP as standard Majini, so all you need to do is save grenades and just blind-toss them. I liken RE4/5 to the RE movies in that while they have the same "context", they just suck as RE games.

It doesn't really make a difference anyway, because now Capcom has to reboot the entire canon after TWO action-horror games. With the success of LIN and the dismal failure of RE5 in terms of popular approval (even critics are panning it, despite the fact that it's basically RE4 with all of the action-horror elements that they wanted; one site called RE4 "Game of the Decade" while making no mention of RE5), hopefully they do a total reboot and get rid of this action-horror nonsense.

:I haven't heard much about "Lost in Nightmare." How is it better than base RE5?

:I'll agree that the REmake on Gamecube was plenty scary, given elements like the Crimson Heads arising out of downed zombies you either didn't headshot, blow the knees off of, or burn, or "itChy iTchy sCoTT caMe uGLy FAce so KIlleD hiM. taSTy," or truly classic monsters like Lisa the Mutant, but you have to admit a lot of the difficulty in that game was because of the very wonky controls and the fact that you really couldn't aim very well. Those controls should stay in the past where they rightfully belong--I don't think gamers of today would take very kindly to not being able to dodge zombies due to poor controls. Sure wish we had a full-fledged remake of RE1 with the entire STARS team with today's tech though.--Mazryonh 01:07, 12 April 2010 (UTC)

The controls are used as part of the cinematic-emulating pacing elements; that's why you can't move while you shoot or be able to directly aim for the head in RE1 GC. Don't think of them as merely games that are under the RE title, think of them as zombie-horror pieces in their own right. By definition, RE1 GC did practically everything right in terms of creating a zombie-horror atmosphere; the camera angles that acted like the ones in Romero's Living Dead, the lack of offensive capability, the shock of the protagonist characters, inclusion of human flaws as part of the game's theme (Wesker's hubris, Brad's cowardice), and overall ominous environment is still the best the series has in terms of an actual model.

And in reality, the controls have absolutely nothing to do with the "control" problem. The only difference between RE5 PS3 and RE1 PS3's controls are the Knife button and the Quick-Access button; the difference is the camera. Everyone flips for the OtS, but no one ever pays attention to the fact that it totally DESTROYS a game's cinematic value. What kind of movie do you know of that follows the protagonist around from 2 feet behind and 2 feet above? If used in a horror game in particular, it gives the player too much control and inherently destabilizes the effect altogether. Dead Space, which is the only real example of a workable SH game, only succeeded for its novelty; in order to use OtS, they had to balance the game against the player in other aspects, such as using claustrophobic-tight areas and exotic enemies, which took the average OtS player by surprise. Dead Space 2 isn't looking too good (as expected), because they reprised the protagonist as "taking the fight to them" and added rocket boots (which means that the player is going to face zero gravity with both the advantages of OtS/boots and prior experience, turning it into a mere formality), along with the fact that they have to TOP their previous game's enemy design to challenge the player's OtS advantage sufficiently. Silent Hill's take on OtS is obviously a one-time deal; it also did all of the horror elements properly, but its style cannot be repeated for important reasons (one, it takes away the combat aspect entirely, which is, as you said, a novelty nowadays, and two, it's more of an isolated intensity; it plays a unique way, and any further encroachment would just cheapen it).

The camera was designed to encourage the player to evade or avoid enemies instead of directly attacking them (which is how a counterpart in the Living Dead series would react as well). Just like in the Living Dead series, the protagonist has a difficulty getting a bead on enemies and is disoriented mentally relative to their situation.

LIN is a fair bit better than the base game in terms of survival-horror because it puts much greater emphasis on puzzle solving (granted, it's no RE3 or CV, but it's better than RE4 and eons ahead of RE5; some puzzles actually require some degree of examination) and greatly de-emphasizes gunplay (you start with Beretta 92Fs, and there is only one "chapter", meaning you cannot upgrade or purchase weaponry to improve firepower). You still have OtS, which still handicaps the survival-horror, but it is much better.

No kidding, most of the Keepers have to be dealt with without guns, instead of using enviroment kills (conveniently located around sewers). Actually, was there even a part where you were able to gun down those things? --AlkoTanko 18:09, 12 April 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, it really doesn't make much difference in-game. They all seem to have the same inherent accuracy, virtually no bullet drop, and every one of them is pre-zeroed to hit the same POI. So, it really doesn't matter what you call it. Although I find it really odd how this article says the the 7.62x54R has less power than the .308 Win based 7.62x51mm. I mean, you can SEE that the Soviet round has 3mm more case capacity, which means that it has a greater possible power level. In-game, the Russian round is the same as the .308 Win round, but that could be explained by downloading it. Again, I suppose it really doesn't make a difference.
Some thoughts
First of all, there`s no such 50 cal sniper rifle like SVN-98 in game. The weapon on the screenshot is clearly a revolver with extended barrel, optics and stock (possibly early game model).

Second - all ingame revolvers are clearly loaded with .44 caliber rounds. Possibly .44 Magnum.

Third - there are two major modifications of AK: ingame "post-apocaliptic" AK (can be anything from AK-74, AKS-74 etc till AK-74M. And the broken ones that can be found around corpses are possibly AKS-74 (brown polyamide handguard and handle).
:::AK in game most probably is AK74M (scope mount, plastic folding buttstock), but has replaced upper receiver lid (it has reinforcing ribs). Or its AKS74N with replaced stock. Or its just a mix like you said. W\e.

There`s also Melnik`s (Miller`s) electro-gun, but I dont`t know how get it - maybe in Limited Edition version
I like the idea of using handmade guns, as well as real firearms Rex095

Spoiler
Well, in the end of the game you blow up main "others'" nest and flood the entire Metro.

First: What does the ending of the game have to do here? It's a site about firearms, not about movie/game plots.
Second: Seriously? That means they just... threw away the ending of the book so that there could be no Metro 2034 (the book sequel)? --81.62.92.179 17:25, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
This became clear when in the train scene Vincent reaches for a magazines off his holders but he is fresh out, if he had his Ruger he could of used that. == Final shoot out. ==

In this article, it offers what appears to be a very assured explanation of the final shootout at the end of the movie. It claims that Vincent lost the battle because of his failure to change his killing pattern, blindly following the same method he uses to kill all his targets. I think that this theory is incorrect. Don't you think a hitman as experienced and capable as Vincent would know enough to change his method when it is clear it wouldn't work? While Vincent prefers to shoot his victims with the two-in-the-chest, one-in-the-head method, I'm sure that this tactic is used when he deems it appropriate, and I'm sure a man like Vincent, as intelligent as he is, would not stupidly follow this pattern when it obviously wouldn't work. When a metal door is blocking a clear shot of his target, I'm sure Vincent would know better than to shoot at the door itself, and take advantage of the situation and try to shoot through the windows.

How can a trained hitman like Vincent, lose against Max who has no training what so ever shooting single-handed when Vincent used both hands and fired with a good grip on the gun ?

:Lucky shot? But yeah, I get it, that last scene was a bit stupid when clearly a trained professional wouldn't just shoot at a metal door. He should have waited for Max to shoot and empty his gun since Vincent knows Max is an untrained taxi driver. I'm also wondering since Vincent lost his primary weapon, shouldn't he have a back up? He is an ex-military, special forces kind of guy after all. Excalibur01
It sure helped me ID that Tom Cruise wore some tight freaking pants!

According to the DVD commentary, Tom Cruise used a serpa holster for the USP. So maybe he used one for the movie as well.

The Train Scene
when the lights come back on after the shootout, vincent, who has lost so much blood that his fine motor skills are beginning to deteriorate, does appear to have a full mag in his holders. when the movie cuts to the mag hitting the floor, even in stadard definition one can see that there are bullets in the mag. i am fairly certain that the cut is not of an empty mag hitting the floor, but vincent has dropped his last full mag and realizes that that he has been beaten. i know that this is a gun info site however i thought showing the correct sequence of events might be of some importance.
::You can see the plastic red follower on the top of the magazine, an obvious indication it is empty. He also searches his belt for a long time to find a spare magazine. You should keep in mind he took the guards 5906 but no spare mags, so he didn't have anything to reload with anyway. I believe Mann commented on this in the DVD commentary but I might have to go back and check. - Gunmaster45
::I always thought that Vincent had been going to reload, but dropped his one spare as a result of involuntary loss of control of his support hand, because he looks like he's got something in his hands right before he pitches forward and the camera cuts to the magazine hitting the floor. --Clutch 00:17, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Thank you Gunmaster for pointing that out. at the time i wrote my original comment, i was unaware of the red followers as my S&W 1006 has white ones and my 4506 has black followers. looking at the frame and watching the movie again i can see the follower, not a cartridge.
Ruger Mark II
The Ruger mark II is used t kill Daniel the club owner. After that it is never seen again, so I'm assuming Vincent put it in his briefcase which Max threw off the bridge, which is why it's never seen again. This became clear when in the train scene Vincent reaches for a magazines off his holders but he is fresh out, if he had his Ruger he could of used that. Also Vincent must of reloaded his Smith & Wesson 5906, so I guess it must use the same ammunition as a USP-45 either that or the security guard must of had spare clips. Could someone please verify this- thank you.
:Well, seeing as the 5906 is a 9mm and the USP45 is a .45, he must have gotten the MAGAZINES (not clips) from the security guard. That's an interesting point about the Ruger, though. -Gunman69 17:13, 28 November 2009 (UTC)
Final shoot out.
Can someone clear this up?

Is Renee Walker's sidearm Glock 23 or Glock 17? (I think someone actually listed her sidearm at Glock 17 in the Glock page).

Thanks in advance.

:Agent Walker's sidearm is a compact model she doe's not use a Glock 17. She is either using a Glock 23 or Glock 19 I'm still confirming the caliber once I look at the bore of the barrel you could just leave the Glock page blank of all 24 activity until I finish rescreencapping Season 7. However I still estimate I'll be done with Season 7 within 2 weeks.

::Whoever keeps changing this back to a Glock 23 is wrong in episode 3 you can look at the barrel of it it is clearly a 9mm not 40 cal thus making it a Glock 19 not a Glock 23. Plus look at Annie Wershing hands they couldn't handle a 40.

:::If the actress is using blank ammunition it does not matter whether her hands can handle the recoil of the firearm. Since January 1998, all new agents are trained on the 10×21mm (.40 S&W) Glock 22 pistols, with the smaller 10×21mm (.40 S&W) Glock 23 for those who prefer it. The ultra-compact 10×21mm (.40 S&W) Glock 27 is authorized as concealed backup. Older agents continue to field their SIG-Sauer pistols, if they wish, and even new agents can switch to the 9×19mm guns if they qualify with them. Until Season 7 is finished please post all comments on the discussions page and wait for confirmation from the screencaps.

::::You're thinking about it the wrong way. This is a TV show, not real life. Just because the FBI uses the Glock 22/23 in real life doesn't mean the same is true in this show. The Secret Service agents in this show use SIG P228s instead of 299R DAKs (their current real-life issue).

::::In Hollywood, most of the semi-auto pistols used are 9mms, because there was a time when gunsmiths in the industry found this caliber to be the most reliable with blanks. Armorers didn't start using newer calibers until fairly recently. When in doubt, we tend to assume a pistol used in a movie is a 9mm, and it's a safe bet here. If the armorer who worked on this show cared THAT much about realism, then they probably would have given the USSS agents the correct sidearm. That they didn't makes me pretty sure that Agent Walker's Glock is probably a 9mm G19. -MT2008

Live Free or Die Hard Armorer
Aside from the gun calibers has anybody noticed that this show uses the same guns as Live Free or Die Hard? I'm now thinking that if this is the same armorer that supplied Die Hard 4 and since gunmaster has identified the Glock 22's it's not so hard to believe that 24 may also be using .40S&W compatible firearms. I've only realized this since season 5.

:This show does not use the same weapons as Live Free or Die Hard. The weapons for that movie were rented mostly from Stembridge & Cinema Weaponry. I'm pretty sure that 24s weapons come mostly from Independent Studio Services (or at least, they did in the 7th season). Anyway, I've told you before: Unless you have some way of confirming it, you should assume that the Glocks in the show are 9mms. If the propmaster that worked on the show was going for realism (meaning, the correct Glock model for the FBI), then why did they use SIG P228s, which in real life are not used by the Secret Service anymore? -MT2008

::Yes I already know about that I just realized that after the 5th season of 24. It has had 13/21 weapons used by Live Free or Die Hard including 2 rare models that are just not seen very much on IMFDB. Especially the Beretta 92G Elite 1A used in Season 7. It was just interesting thing I couldn't get off my head. Thanks for clearing it up I have never heard of Stembridge & Cinema Weaponry before.

Breaking up page by Seasons
"We used weapons based on need and back-story and nothing made up. All of the Punisher’s weapons currently exist and are being used in modern combat! The Punisher originated out of Vietnam, so his primary weapon in the film is an M-4 which he would feel the most comfortable with. To that I mounted a mini grenade launcher using thermo baric grenades for point detonations. I followed that up with the most powerful revolver on the planet, a Knight’s Armament/Smith&Wesson custom Model 500 .50 cal, in a breakaway leg holster as his back-up!
We created two fully automatic Beretta 92f handguns for close quarter combat.
In the opening of the film he uses ultra reliable H&K custom MP5’s in fully automatic that he carries in the small of his back, and for speed draws a H&K USP compact .45.
I also had a custom mini 13” Bolo machete combat knife created that he carries on a leg holster for hand to hand.
The result was modern weapons used in the modern time, but in full Punisher style!"
:Not a very good advisor, is he? The Smith & Wesson 500 is the most powerful production revolver, certainly not the most powerful on the planet. The .600 Nitro Revolver made by some guy that weighs about 12 pounds is the most powerful. Sounds like he's a little too excited about his decisions. ::For me, I might not watch this movie really because Thomas Jane isn't in it and it looks like a bad generic action movie. I like how the first one showed how the Punisher really can do things we believe, but the moment I saw the trailer of the Punisher dropping from the ceiling, and spinning around with double MP5Ks...it makes it look like the action style is trying to be John Woo, but even that is over the top. The weapon of choices they give the Punisher movie, in my opinion, doesn't fit for how the Punisher should be. I understand the M4 with the grenade launcher and even the USP as the backup, but apparently, he carries all that in one action sequence. Seems a little too much stuff to carry, but hey, I'll give this movie a chance to JUST because I have to really see it to really critize it. -Ex
:Full auto Beretta Inoxs are very tactically stupid. A S&W 500 is not a back up gun, it's a primary. You don't carry an ankle gun that can down a bear. Personally, I thought the original Punisher comics sucked ass, too "comics" like. Have you ever read a seventies comic? They are terrible. Like a bad '50s safety video. Personally I liked the "Welcome Back, Frank" story which the 2004 film was based on. Thomas Jane was going for the "descent into madness" sort of look like DeNiro in Taxi Driver, which is an interesting idea (although the punisher should not be a physchopath, that's bad). Castle's attachment to 1911s was one of my favorite elements of the story. And my LEAST favorite part of the old comics was the costume. The new story made it a sweet T-shirt, this one brings out the lame ass tights. I just don't have much faith in it. - Gunmaster45
:I want to know who this military adviser for the film is and tell him that most of his suggestions for a modern day Punisher arsenal is very stupid. Except the M4 with the GL. The S&W 500 and auto Berettas dual wielding and dual wielding MP5ks while spinning from a chandelier is very stupid and he's watched too many John Woo movies and even John Woo never had his actors spin around a chandelier like that... I followed a lot of the details about this movie for a while before it came out. I think the military advisor was mostly responsible for teaching the handling of the weapons. While it's definitely possible he advised some of these weapon choices, it's more likely director Lexi Alexander made the final calls. I can't say I agree with her vision, but I enjoyed the film for its action and cheesy performances. The 04 version was a serious film that was marred by a lot of stupid stuff and a lack of action. The 08 version was a campy attempt that didn't even try to be serious but had the brutality that the 04 movie lacked. It's sad that a film hasn't yet been made that's done the Punisher justice. I don't know how to post pictures, but put Punisher revolver into a search engine and it will bring up the sweet Knight's Armament custom piece that was made for the final fight, no matter how impractical it may be. A lot of stuff in War Zone was done simply for the sake of theatrics. -- ZG
:::Well said, and not to burst anyone else's bubble but the ARMORER or Military Advisor doesn't make the final call on weapons ... EVER. It's the director. Period. I've had to bite my tongue several times (as the other armorers here can attest as well) when a Director picks a weapon that I would not have. But it's their decision to make. So stop blaming the advisors or armorers, when it's probably the director you need to yell at. Just a note! :) MoviePropMaster2008 07:04, 4 May 2009 (UTC)
: The Punisher '04 was plenty bloody and brutal, better constructed and better acted. Tom Jane's Frank Castle, quite frankly, would stomp mudholes right into the Jason Voorhees wannabe that Ray Stevenson either chose to portray or HAD to portray. And frankly, no amount of theatrics can act as an excuse for the absolute tripe that went down in this movie. Seemed like the man was holstering and drawing his pistols every other kill; I'm sorry, isn't he supposed to be former frickin' Special Forces? And for all of the whole "We're more faithful to the comics" crap, I'm not seeing it. I can't remember a single one of the MAX comics being as horrible as this movie ended up being. Total dreck. And I've got a few choice words for the military advisor on the movie, but I'm afraid that they're not suitable for even this little corner of the Internet. --Clutch 09:48, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

The theatrics, I think, were just another one of the films downfalls. I agree the 04 version was better acted. As for the construction of the films...eh, I've got too many thoughts to list. I'm glad you liked the 04 movie. The fact that both films have so many fans AND detractors just means there's so much territory still to cover, though I think the fans have been part of what tears these movies apart. I'm much more lenient on the film because I have no definitive view of the Punisher and I really have no particular need for material to come directly from the comics. I think we need to step away from the comics and focus on what makes a good movie, instead. Though I was just thinking earlier that War Zone was so goofy and flamboyant, if they were going to drop the Punisher into the Marvel Universe with the likes of Spiderman and Iron Man, this would pretty much be the Punisher I would expect them to use.
They destroyed The Punisher
The advisor said that the guns are full punisher style! Bullshit! they ruined the whole thing like the dropping from the ceiling with to SMGs part. And the real punisher doesn't use extremely modern looking weapons and dress up like that! This movie might have lots of action and all that but the style of the punisher is gone. The 1911s are a trademark of Frank Castle, so to Lionsgate, bring Thomas Jane back or the next Punisher suffers!-GunnutHk

:Thomas Jane was completely onboard for the second Punisher movie, but when the producers took too long getting a script up and changing actors, he decided to drop out. I think this movie would have been better if Thomas Jane was in it. And speaking of the 1911, we do see in the movie the Punisher taking a 1911, disasemebling it and cleaning it, but never use it. Excalibur01 10:37, 23 February 2009 (UTC)

:Agreed, Thomas Jane's take on Castle was far superior to Ray Stevenson's (no diss to Ray, though, as he's one of my favorite actors). And I also agree that the weapon selections (save for the M4A1, the SL8, and the MP5Ks) sucked. They should have given him 1911s instead of Beretta 92s or that 500 and put an M203 on the M4 instead of that AGX. Spartan198 17:20, 3 July 2009 (UTC)
Hi everybody i was just wonering wher did he keep his usp compact?

the Punisher seems like a Vigilante slowly going down hill then a action hero rex095

Better than the Thomas Jane one there reason is Castle has no super powers but he has one that could be a super power his incredible pain tolerance he just doesn't care about pain he is a pure killing machine no regrets whatsoever and that's why this movie nailed it, Jane was a pussy with his t shirt and getting beaten all the time in this movie even though he got the shit kicked out of him by Jigsaws brother he didn't even flinch he didn't hesitate to kill micro cause that was what he had to do Punisher doesn't care about life if it can't be saved he wont try

:The Jane Punisher getting the shit kicked out of him by the Russian was straight out of the comics and very faithful to how it played on film. The fight with LBJ was frankly anemic, and boring. Also, if he doesn't care about a life that he knows can not be saved, then why the hell did he tell the ex-gangbanger who was missing limbs and had an axe in his chest not to die on him? That is a very un-Punisher thing to say.

:And that one shot in the 2004 film of Jane shooting a thug lying wounded on the ground without given him any notice or care, says a lot more about the character than killing 50 criminals in one scene.173.88.129.35

:My weigh in on the Russian fight is that I just wasn't a big fan of Castle getting beat up. I didn't like how it was done in the comic and the movie recreation was just so-so. If you've ever played the PS2 or Xbox Punisher game, that scenario plays out with Frank kicking the crap out of the Russian and tossing him out a window. I'd have liked that better. As for the injured ex-gangbanger, to me that showed a bit of character development from Frank, who had previously shown his distaste for the man, but after working with him had come to view him as an ally. This is something we'd probably never see in the comic, and I liked it. I did really like the shootout in the 04 Punisher, especially when he finished off the wounded guy, but I also felt we got the same type of brutal Punisher mindset when Stevenson threw McGinty onto an iron fence before jumping down on his neck. What I liked the most about the Dolph Lundgren and Ray Stevenson films is that they showed that the Punisher can viciously murder criminals and still be a GOOD GUY without dealing with all that anti-hero moral conundrum bullcrap. -- ZG

::Regarding the gangbanger thing, you may have liked but it was a completely out of character thing for him to say, even to an ally. They went for a cliched moment that was out of character.173.88.129.35
It is not an M3A1 model because the guns clearly hav external charging handles on the right side while the M3A1 as divots in the bolt so the bolt can be pinched and pulled back. Prison Military and Police (M&P) guards are seen using them, as well as practically every member of the Dirty Dozen, most notabley Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) during several scenes in basic training. ==Browning M1919A4==
Several times the Browning M1919A4 is used in the film. First it is seen carried in a jeep by the blue team during the war games. Two are used during the assault on the mansion, one used by (??? and ???) near the front entrance and the other manned by Tassos Bravos (Al Mancini) to combat the approaching German vehicles.
Sawyer and Lever are using the machinegun at front entrance, and are also ones who try to escape via boat before being gunned down.
Mk 2 hand grenade
Several members of the Dirty Dozen keep Mk 2 hand grenades hanging on their belts, most notabley Robert Jefferson (Jim Brown) and Archer Maggott (Telly Savalas). While on the roof, Seth Sawyer (Colin Maitland) gets stuck after having a leg break through the roof on his way to disable the alarm tower. Immobilized, he throws two Mk 2 grenades at the tower to destroy it instead. When preparing to blow up the mansion, Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) and his men dump bags of Mk 2 grenades down the vents and then dump gasoline to make the building itself a bomb.

Beretta 21A Bobcat (suppressed)
Joseph Wladislaw (Charles Bronson) is seen using a Beretta 21A Bobcat fitted with a sound suppressor to kill several guards at the gates of the mansion. While inside the mansion, he manages to kill a radio operator with it before leaving it there. Since the Bobcat pistol has a tip open barrel, this makes small acorn .22 blanks easy to load and unload with non-blank converted guns (which this clearly is since it doesn't cycle). This is likely why this gun was chosen since it was not made at the time of WWII.
Unknown Artillery Guns
During the war games, the Red team fires on the Blue team with unknown Artillery guns. I'm not an artillery pro so user input is needed.

Karabiner 98k
German soldiers carry Karabiner 98k rifles during the final shootout at the mansion. Like many WWII films from 1960-1980, the MP40 submachine gun is inaccurately shown as the main weapon of the German army instead of the Kar98k.

Karabiner 98k Sniper
At one point in the film, a German sniper is seen using a Karabiner 98k fitted with a scope (which appears to have infrared vision, which wasn't available on such a small scope at the time) and uses it to kill (???) with a shot between the eyes.
Vladek is the one who is killed by sniper.

The first German sniper is hilariously seen using an American M1 Garand with the same fake scope mount, likely because of a lack of 7.92mm blanks or firing Kar98k rifles.

MP40
Germans are inaccurately seen armed mainly with MP40 submachine guns.

MG42
??? mans an MG42 to combat the approaching German vehicles. The gun is fitted with a 50 round drum. The same gun is seen mounted on a German vehicle but not clear enough to see.
Posey is manning the gun alongside Bravos. Strangely, movie doesn't show the fate of Posey (we do see Bravos dying), so I just assume he died also.

Walther P38
When Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) and Joseph Wladislaw (Charles Bronson) infiltrate the German mansion disguised as German officers, they keep Walther P38s as their sidearms and use them to shoot the guards outside the shelter entrance before sealing the people inside.
Unknown AA gun
When the remaining members of the Dirty Dozen try to escape in an armored vehicle, the look back to see it is towning an unknown German Anti-Aircraft (AA) gun. Victor Franko (John Cassavetes) then jumps off and removes the hitch.
M3 "Grease Gun"
The most commonly seen gun in the film is the older M3 "Grease Gun". It is not an M3A1 model because the guns clearly hav external charging handles on the right side while the M3A1 as divots in the bolt so the bolt can be pinched and pulled back. They also have a much higher rate of fire than the M3A1 model. Prison Military and Police (M&P) guards are seen using them, as well as practically every member of the Dirty Dozen, most notabley Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) during several scenes in basic training. In reality, the Grease Gun was never fielded in such great numbers but was likley the easiest gun for the film armorers to aquire.
M1 Garand
While the M1 Garand was the most heavily fielded weapon of the U.S. Military during WWII, it is seen somewhat scarcely in the film, mainly in the hands of M&Ps and some of the members of the Dirty Dozen during the war games.

??? mans an MG42 to combat the approaching German vehicles. The gun is fitted with a 50 round drum. The same gun is seen mounted on a German vehicle but not clear enough to see.
When Major Reisman (Lee Marvin) and Joseph Wladislaw (Charles Bronson) infiltrate the German mansion disguised as German officers, they keep Walther P38s as their sidearms and use them to shoot the guards outside the shelter entrance before sealing the people inside.

The first German sniper is hilariously seen using an American M1 Garand with the same fake scope mount, likely because of a lack of 7.92mm blanks or firing Kar98k rifles.
Karabiner 98k
German soldiers carry Karabiner 98k rifles during the final shootout at the mansion. Like many WWII films from 1960-1980, the MP40 submachine gun is inaccurately shown as the main weapon of the German army instead of the Kar98k.
