As Joe Kidd (Clint Eastwood) escapes from the bounty hunters, he grabs a rifle case containing a custom built Ross Model 1910 straight pull bolt action rifle that has been sporterized and modified as a break down rifle, and fitted with a Winchester A5 or Lyman 5A scope. The gun also has a fixed five round magazine instead of the extended ten round version. Joe uses it when battling Olin Mingo (James Wainwright) in a sniper standoff.
As Joe Kidd (Clint Eastwood) escapes from the bounty hunters, he grabs a rifle case containing a custom built Ross Model 1910 straight pull bolt action rifle that has been sporterized and modified as a break down rifle, and fitted with a Winchester A5 scope. The gun also has a fixed five round magazine instead of the extended ten round version. Joe uses it when battling Olin Mingo (James Wainwright) in a sniper standoff.
Olin Mingo (James Wainwright) carries a Remington-Keene Deluxe Sporter rifle fitted with a scope and with a shortened magazine tube as his sniper rifle in the film, noted by its external hammer mounted on the back of the bolt. Based on the muzzle diameter it appears to be chambered in .45-70. A similar rifle is seen used in The Sons of Katie Elder and Crossfire Trail.
Colt Walker 1847
Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) carries two Colt Walker 1847 revolvers in twin holsters as his primary sidearms, although he carries four pistols in total. While not supposed to be known by the audience, the guns are converted to fire metallic cartridges instead of firing percussion cap and ball, since this it is safer to use blanks than firing blackpowder blank shot. While some of the guns are anachronistically seen with conventional metallic conversion kits with ejector rods and loading gates, these guns lack these features to try to hide its conversion. In some scenes though, the guns are non-firing models which do have percussion nipples so the audience can be tricked into thinking the guns are a percussion only. The famous image in which Wales poses with his Colt Walkers is a good example.
Colt 1860 Army
In the film, there are multiple variants of the Colt 1860 Army revolver (despite the fact there was only one available during the Civil War, since cartridge conversions didn't exist at the time), including:

Standard
The most common version of the Colt Army in the film is the standard version without an obvious conversion such as a Richards-Mason. Even so, almost all of them have a hidden cartridge conversion since it is safer to shoot metallic blank catridges than black powder blank shot.

Loading Gate Conversion
When Wales' family is first murdered by the Red Legs, he retrieves a gun from the ashes of his house, which is a Colt Army with a cartridge conversion and a loading gate only. Due to quick camera cuts, it appears he fires far more than six shots at a time.

Richards Cartridge Conversion
Lone Watie (Chief Dan George) sneaks up on Wales and holds a Colt Army with a Richards Conversion (has a rear sight added to the breech ring instead of the rear sight on the hammer, has a frame-mounted firing pin, and a hammer modified to strike this firing pin. Also had ejector rod and loading gate) on him, boasting that only an Indian can sneak up on someone. Wales agrees and in a second, Watie has a gun to his head from Little Moonlight (Geraldine Keams).

Richards-Mason Cartridge Conversion
Colt Armies with Richards-Mason are used by several characters in the film.

Colt 1849 Pocket
Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) carries a Colt 1849 Pocket in a breast-pocket holster, and draws it only when no other option is left.

Colt 1851 Navy
Union "Red Leg" leader Captain Terrill (Bill McKinney) carries a Colt 1851 Navy with a brass frame as his sidearm, and is noteably seen using it during the slaughter of the Confederate soldiers. It is not a Griswold and Gunnison 1860 as a previous user claimed, as it has an octagonal barrel, not a round barrel like an G&G.

Sharps 1863 Cavalary Carbine
Sharps 1865 Sniper Rifle
Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) carries a Sharps 1865 rifle fitted with a full length J. Stevens brass tube target scope, which he uses to shoot the ferry rope in two, leaving the pursuing Redlegs stranded in the water. He later uses it to tie a white flag to when approaching the Commancheros before using it to shoot one of them off their horse.

Trapdoor Springfield 1873
Another anachronistic firearm in the film, Trapdoor Springfield 1873 rifles are used by Abe (Len Lesser) and Lige (Doug McGrath) when they attempt to capture Josey Wales (Clint Eastwood) by the river side. Later in the film, several are used by Wales' allies in the house to shoot at the Red Legs outside.
Colt 1872 Gatling Gun
Union troops use two Colt 1872 Gatling Guns to mow down Josey Wales' (Clint Eastwood) comrades after they surrender, despite being an anachronistic firearm. Wales kills the gunner and loader in one of the gun carts and uses it to mow down Union troops and destroy the other gun. One of these guns was recently sold for a price of roughly $30,000 in a gun auction, in which they listed the gun as a Colt 1872 in .45-70 caliber.
Rafe Covington's (Tom Selleck) main sidearm is a Smith and Wesson Schofield, which he mainly uses in a holster placed above his right hip.
He mostly carries this weapon in the first half of the film, but uses it along with his 1872 Colt in the end gunbattle.
Used by many characters throughout the movie. Rock and Gill keep one in quickdraw holsters. Dorn keeps one in a shoulder holster as a backup to his Remington. In the end gunbattle, Dorn wields his Colt and his Remington akimbo style. Barkow also keeps one concealed in a shoulder holster, which he uses in the end gunbattle. Snake keeps an ivory handled Colt SAA in a crossdraw holster.
Colt 1872 Open Top Revolver .44 Caliber Conversion
Covington (Tom Selleck) uses a converted Colt 1872 Open Top Revolver .44 Caliber Conversion for the second half of the movie in a crossdraw holster, and uses it in the end gunbattle as well. This is according to the May 2002 issue of the NRA's publication American Rifleman. It was built from parts for Tom Selleck by Ken Howell of R&D Gun Shop.

Remington 1875
Bo Dorn (Brad Johnson), the bounty hunter, uses a nickel plated Remington 1875 revolver as his main sidearm. He wields the Remington and his Colt akimbo style in the end gunbattle.

In the end gunbattle, Rock and several civilians use Winchester 1873s to battle the bad guys. Some of the bad guys use some as well.

Winchester 1866 'Yellow Boy'
The gunstore owner uses a Winchester Yellow Boy in the end gunbattle, as does Rock, who empties it into one of Barkow's men. In the gunbattle, Rock empties a Winchester 1973 into a bad guy. The gun shop owner attempts to bring some Winchesters (one of them a Yellow Boy) over to the good guys at the end gun battle before being shot in the leg by Barlow.

Winchester 1876 Centennial
Charles Rodney ordered a Winchester Model 1876 musket-carbine with 22" barrel (full-stock configuration) but died before it reached him. Covington bought it when a very drunk Mike Taggert calls him out to gunfight as revenge since Rafe Covington "stole" the Indian Squaw Taggert had kidnapped. Covington had actually recued the squaw and returned her to her father, Chief Red Cloud. Taggert sot at and missed Covington twice before Covington returns a single shot killing Taggert. Covington shoots him with the 1876.
Right after killing Taggert, Covington notices Snake Corville pointing a rifle at him from the rooftop of the barbar shop next door, he quickly shoots him before Snake can get off a shot.

During the gun battle at the end of the movie, Covington uses the 1876 in the first part of the gunbattle, put then sets it down and uses his handguns to face Dorn. Ann finds the 1876 and uses it to shoot and kill Barkow moments before Barkow can kill Covington.

When Covington goes into town to pick up supplies he notices the 1876 in the rack of rifles. He asks, "that the new Centennial model?" The gunstore owner hands the rifle to Covington and replies, "Yep. Winchester's first big-bore lever gun".
Covington notices CR (Charles Rodney's initials) imprinted on the side.

Remington-Keene Repeating Rifle
Dorn uses a bolt-action sniper rifle to shoot and kill J.T.
It's a Remington-Keene Deluxe Sporter Bolt Action Rifle in .40-60 Marlin & Ballard. Remington manufactured the rifle from 1880 - 1885 with only around 5,000 rifles produced. Also according to the May 2002 issue of American Rifleman the Remington-Keene used by Brad Johnson was overhauled by Ken Howell of R&D Gun Shop.--Jcordell 02:14, 6 June 2009 (UTC)
Evans Repeating Rifle
The 28 shot Evans Rifle is used by Joe Gill (Wilford Brimley). When asked why he dosen't get rid of it he states "Well, it holds twenty-eight bullets...and I ain't a very good shot...I'm going to town." In the middle of the gunbattle, the rifle runs out of bullets, and Gill switches to a Winchester carbine that is brought out to him by the owner of the general store.
Sharps-Bochardt Model 1878
In the beginning of the film, Covington steals a scoped Sharps-Bochardt Model 1878 from the captain who murdered Charles Rodney. Covington uses it to kill a Bison, and Joe Gill uses it at the beginning of the end gunbattle to shoot Dorn. Gill isn't a very good shot with the Sharps either, and hits Dorn's rifle instead.

Joe Kidd (Clint Eastwood) later uses it when escaping from the bounty hunters, and shows us that in Hollywood a ten shot pistol can fire about 30 rounds and lock empty several times before actually needing to be reloaded.
Canadian Ross Model 1910 (custom)

Canadian Ross Model 1910 (custom)
As Joe Kidd (Clint Eastwood) escapes from the bounty hunters, he grabs a rifle case containing a custom built Ross Model 1910 straight pull bolt action rifle that has been sporterized and modified as a break down rifle, and fitted with a Winchester A5 scope. The gun also has a fixed five round magazine instead of the extended ten round version. Joe uses it when battling Olin Mingo (James Wainwright) in a sniper standoff.
